 It is estimated that the pregnancy actually lasts 38 weeks, that is, the gestational age of the baby at birth is 38 weeks, which is the time elapsed from the fertilization of the egg to delivery.

The two extra weeks of pregnancy correspond to the 14 days that go from the first day of the last menstrual period until the moment of ovulation, when the ovum is ready to be fertilized. Therefore, another way to calculate the probable due date is to add 280 days or, what is the same, 40 weeks, to the first day of the last menstrual period.
