Join Desiree & Benita, two former educators, discussing how they gained the courage to leave the classroom and begin creating the life they desire! In this week's episode, the dynamic duo talk about the Superwoman Schema, a concept coined by Dr. Cheryl Woods-Giscombé, that explores how Black women experience stress.

In the Pioneering Women segment, Dr. Thema Bryant is highlighted as a well-decorated psychologist, minister, author, and scholar whose work surrounds the societal trauma of oppression and mental health advocacy.

As they move into the episode topic, Desiree & Benita dig deeper into the Superwoman Schema and how it affects Black women. They take a look at the five characteristics of the schema and how being strong and resilient is important in order to survive in our society, but also how it can be a detriment to our mental and physical well-being, especially if we do not seek help in managing our stress.

The episode closes out with a few tools and resources such as a powerful book called, The Strong Black Woman: How Myth Endangers the Physical and Mental Health of Black Women by Marita Golden which explores the myth that Black women have to be strong and how it is literally killing us.
