    Welcome to Episode 2093, where host Giulia Stocchetti interviews Tamara Ohanjanyan. In this episode, Tamara shares with us her experience and point of view having been a sommelier since 2015, hosting engaging wine tastings to educate people and make them more confident and comfortable with wine. More about today’s guest: Tamara Ohanjanyan A sommelier with passion! Tamara started her journey in the field in 2015. At first it was hard without proper wine experience to read and understand HOW different all the wines are. And yes they do not taste the same at all! All started when she accidentally came across a job announcement where it said: "We are teaching about wine with the best sommeliers, come and join the course, if you succeed, you'll work with us". To put it in a nutshell, that's all I did. I ordered my first Atlas of wine and my cousin sent me 2 more books. In that same year I registered for a 2 year joint program between Armenia and Germany (Geisenheim and Armenian Agrarian universities) "Enology and Wine Management". Thanks to the program we had the chance to travel to some European wine regions and see the winemaking process ourselves. I realized people needed more confidence in their wine selection when I was already working at a professional wine store in Yerevan, Armenia. People would ask me how I helped them to pick the wine they really liked, what criteria I used, how the wine was made, how to pair a wine with a specific dish etc. I started my first events called "Wine Talks" in 2017 (I still have the pics and I remember how enthusiastic we all were). And now here I am, organizing beautiful wine tastings in Italy, talking about wine history and via trivia games educating people. I love seeing confidence in their eyes every time we finish the event.     Welcome to Episode 2092 of On The Road Special Edition. Stevie Kim takes a deep dive into the wine region of Piemonte. Today she sits down with Mariuccia Borio at the Cascina Castlet winery to talk about the winery’s long history and her own involvement since she inherited the estate from her father in 1970. More about today’s winery: An estate is initially a project. And a project is a dream which gradually takes shape, first of all on paper, then on the land and finally, for us, in our wine. Our project starts from two simple ideas: respect for nature and alignment with technological progress. Simple does not, however, mean easy. There have been times when we’ve really had to push forward and others in which we’ve had to stand with our feet planted firmly on the ground; we’ve had to invest in land, technology and, above all, research. This is how we’ve created Cascina Castlèt. The grapes are grown in 31 hectares of vineyards in Costigliole d’Asti. We have concentrated on the land, our land, and on the local grape varieties: Barbera, Moscato, Uvalino and Nebbiolo, but also on Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, this last variety having been grown in Costigliole since the late 18th century, when Marquis Filippo Asinari of San Marzano planted it for the first time. Cascina Castlèt has belonged to the Borio family for generations. Mariuccia Borio inherited it from her father in 1970. Today’s question comes from Riccardo Bernasconi Today’s question: Climate change is threatening our industry with a magnitude and speed that we are struggling to understand and to keep pace with. Among many Italian varieties, which could be helpful to counter the change in the last few years? There were talks and experimentations with the so-called PIWI varieties. Could you give us your opinion on them? And, if any, how is the experimentation with these varieties going in Italy and in which regions? He has been the lead for many national research projects in the field of physiology, agricultural techniques, and vine genetics. As the author of over 350 publications on vine and viticulture in national and international journals, you can bet he knows his stuff!
