Key 3: Waiting Upon The Lord (E-Course)

  • Summary

  • Welcome back to "From Glory to Glory: Seven Keys to the Uncommon Spiritual Life." This is Module 3, where we explore the third key: Waiting Upon the Lord. Let's begin with key scriptures from Isaiah 40:31 and Psalms 27:14:

"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)

"Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!" (Psalms 27:14)

    Key Insights:

The Power of Waiting: Waiting on the Lord resembles the eagle waiting on the rock. It’s a posture of stillness and attentiveness in which you yield to the gentle promptings of the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to guide your prayer and worship.

Spiritual Renewal: The promise of waiting upon the Lord is a renewal of strength, refreshment, and courage. As you wait, you intertwine yourself with God's Spirit, collecting your thoughts and heart to be bound with His presence.

Communion and Union: The ultimate aim of waiting is communion with God—an intimate exchange of thoughts and feelings. This leads to union, where you become one with God's Spirit, reflecting His character and nature in your life.

    Practical Application:

Be Present: Waiting on the Lord means being present with Him, setting aside distractions, and quieting your heart to focus solely on God. This involves being still and acknowledging His presence.

Non-Verbal Communication: Much like human relationships, a significant part of your communication with God can be non-verbal. Learn to be still and attentive, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you through impressions and gentle nudges.

Time Well Spent: Think of waiting on the Lord as allowing spiritual fermentation. As wine strengthens over time, so does your spirit when you spend time in God's presence. This time is never wasted but is essential for spiritual growth and strength.

    Reflection Questions:

Are you in need of refreshing and renewal?

How much time in prayer do you dedicate to waiting upon the Lord?

What distractions keep you from being still, and how can you eliminate them?

Are you aware that in waiting upon the Lord, you are inviting the Holy Spirit to minister to you and give you strength?

    Declaration and Prayer

    Declare this over your life:

"I wait upon the Lord and renew my strength. I am bound together with God's Spirit, receiving His guidance, strength, and refreshment. In stillness, I find communion with God, and through communion, I achieve union with His Spirit. I am like an eagle, soaring on the winds of God's Spirit, empowered and refreshed daily."

    Say this prayer:

"Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your presence. Help me to be still and wait upon You, setting aside all distractions and concerns. As I wait, I invite Your Spirit to renew my strength and refresh my heart. Teach me to commune with You deeply and intimately, so that I may reflect Your character and nature. In Jesus' name, Amen."
