About this listen

Kelly, if you’re listening, I need your help.

It’s the summer of 2007, and Mookie Hooper returns to Camp Cartwright with a huge secret: This is going to be her final summer at camp. So this has to be her best summer yet! Without anything to investigate, this is finally Mookie’s time to be a camper. She’s going to spend time with her buddy Carter Ruben-Rubens, finally make it into the inside of an inside joke with Fanny and her bunk, and possibly attempt a contact sport. The only thing that would put the summer over the top? Getting her first kiss. But that seems fairly unlikely since Squirrel Girl isn’t exactly anyone’s first crush.

Mookie’s perfect summer is going exactly as planned, until Director Sue assigns Mookie the most annoying camp little sister, Ava. Making things even worse, Mookie experiences crush at first sight with the dreamiest 13-year-old camper, Tallahassee Goldman, but there’s no way a guy like that would even give Mookie the time of day! And just when Mookie thinks she has a handle on things, she begins receiving letters from an anonymous sender who knows the secrets of the disappearing girls of Camp Cartwright. Mookie, Director Sue, Ned, Igor, and Lansbury are hot on the case. With the help of friends new and old, Mookie has to find the sender before the time on her final Cartwright summer runs out, and her chance for the perfect camp experience is gone forever.

Returning for their final summer are Academy Award Winner Jamie Lee Curtis as Director Sue, Sunny Sandler as Mookie Hooper, with performances by Kirby, Jacob Tremblay, and Edi Patterson, along with a few surprise guests. Written by Boco Haft and produced by Jamie Lee Curtis and Russell Goldman.

Great story line and it's good enough for parents to enjoy! I play it during morning routines and we get out the door with time to spare.

I was a summer camp counselor years ago in Maine so I've been able to relate, with lots of fun memories, to Camp Cartwright. I never was a camper though, and I've enjoyed vicariously experiencing the kids' side of sleep-away camp through Mookie. I was first drawn to the series because it's from Jamie Lee Curtis and her goddaughter, but the stories and characters - and spot-on narration - kept me coming back each year. If you haven't listened yet, have some tissues handy for the final episodes this year. I'm terribly disappointed that I won't be returning to Camp Cartwright next summer, but I'm hoping something new will be in store from Boco and her godmother (fingers crossed that was a hint I heard at the end...)

I am trying to stop crying. We just finished it and I have no words. It perfectly encapsulates this time in a kids life. Summer sleep away camp is so special. They did such a good job with exploring that. The cast is completely amazing. I was so sad it was over but so affected by the way it transported me to that time in my life when my kids are that age now. We started this in 2020 finished in 2024 their actual growth. Thanks Jamie & Boco

Solid end to a fabulous series
