Okay, so it’s a really stressful time. It seems there’s a new shock every day perpetrated by our president and the Republicans. And then you have your own problems. Right? We need to live through this period while continuing to fight however we can. Let’s talk about how you can feel more relaxed, happy and optimistic right now.

While we are focusing on the protests against mass deportation of immigrants, are we remembering to ask the important underlying questions? When looking for a nanny, a construction worker or a day laborer, do we carefully examine their legal status? Do we ask if illegal immigrants picked the vegetables we are eating? Are we aware of how historically business has taken advantage of “illegal aliens” and have we looked at the economic contributions of immigrants? Have we considered how we are dehumanizing ourselves by our treatment of people who have been integrated in our society? Do we even know the legal status of our own parents, grandparents and great grandparents, if they were immigrants? And finally, do we have first-hand experience with undocumented workers? What was our experience? Let’s talk about it.

Even when we are facing a new and exciting prospect, many of us get scared and suddenly start to focus on the negatives. Do you do that, too, if only unconsciously? We don’t have to go there. Let’s look at this phenomenon and do something about it.
