• Episode 92 - Matt Barnes

    Dave, Katie and Cal chat with a Sale Harrier who started competitive sports in the 80s and competed in the modern pentathlon. With PBs of 5K 13:58, 10K 29:32, half marathon 67:32. Matt Barnes has also been the Northern 1500 meters champion twice. He’s been third in the Northern cross-country championships. He’s been the English 5K road champion in 2010.He’s been a sub-4-minute miler and he’s won the first leg of the National 12 Stage Road Relays. He speaks about how he got into running, how he got into the modern pentathlon and promises its not a "posh boy sport". He also talks about training with Dave and Andy Norman at Altrincham and how they just had the right formula. Matt chats about the PBs he is most proud of as well as the performances, and how beating an Italian in Italy was a great moment. Now competing in Triathlon, Matt explains how he trains and how Triathlon has age categories that help streamline the winners to big competitions.

  • Episode 91 - Juliet Smith

    Sean, Katie, Dave and Cal talk to a Rochdale Harrier who has retuned to the sport as a masters athlete having taken a short 22 year break, the recovery has clearly worked for Juliet who has returned with some very impressive times. Since returning she has had times of 5k 19:36, 10k 41:02, 10 mile 73:02. Juliet talks about her time running as a junior and then her come back as a masters athlete. Juliet tells us about her training now and how she is coached by her husband Mark, who she gives high kudos to. Juliet also tells us about how track is becoming a big part of her training and how more people should give it a try (we have heard this before). Some great listener questions and a lovely message from Juliet's good friend who she helped complete a 10k.

    The team give race reviews for SECCL Match 1, Yorkshire Marathon, British Masters Relays, Marathon Eryri and Oldham Half. Sean tells us that he needed to be a second quicker, Katie tells us she is spending more time training on grass, Cal tells us of his many mistakes at Marathon Eryri and Dave tells us he has enjoyed some battles with local runners, in races of course.

  • Episode 90 - Ian Grime

    Sean, Cal, Katie and Dave speak with a Salford Harrier who has PBs for 5k in 14:13, 10k in 29:21, half in 65:38, and a marathon in 2:31:47. He has also ran 5000m 13:37, the mile in 4:03.7. Ian spoke about how he got into running at a young age and where his junior career took him. From school to university in Loughborough and living and working there. He spoke about how not to celebrate too early in races where he nearly got caught out and he speaks about Evan, his son, and his progression and how he coaches Evan and other juniors at Salford. Ian talks about his struggles with injuries and his current injury with his knee.

    The team talk about the first Tameside 5k Festival and how it went. Dave Katie and Cal all did Manchester XC, but we couldnt get Sean there. Sean was just wanting to show off his Berlin jacket and medal. Dave speaks about his training and racing without a broken shoe, Cal talks about getting some serious elevation in, Katie explains why she did 30 miles with 8000ft elevation before pacing the 5k and Sean gives us a low down of Berlin Marathon.

    Cal, Dave and Michael speak with two Marple Runners, one who is the female club captain and one who is the Treasurer of the club. Cath has PBs of 5km 28.05, 10km 59.38, Half 2hr 13. Dan has PBs of 5k 19:42, 10k 42:38, Half 95:16, Marathon 3:58:51. Both great ambassadors for Marple Runners talking about how much of a community it is and how much meeting at the pub happens. Cath talks about how she ran Manchester 10k in the early running years and how Marple helped her with going to races. Dan chats about how he became treasurer along with his experience of running London marathon along with the reasons behind it. Cath says she might branch out to more than just the two parkruns, and Dan makes sure Parkruns are his staple run of the week.

    The team talk about the up and coming Tameside 5k Festival and what to expect. With Michael Harris drafted in for Sean and Katie, he tells us about his 18month journey to running again and he has switched clubs. Dave talks about how his XC Masters ended and it seems there is an excuse to buy some new spikes. Cal talks about his training and how the miles and weekly elevation have increased in prep for Snowdonia Marathon.

Phil has PBs of 5k in 16:51, 10k in 34:25, half in 1:18:39, marathon in 3:00:05. Josie has PBs of 5k in 21:58, 10k in 47:07, half in 1:50:07, marathon in 4:07:44. They both talk about how they got into running as well as how they ended up at Manchester YMCA Harriers. Phil talks about them 5 seconds on the marathon and Josie talks about getting beating a 5k PB in her 20s from when she was a junior.

With PBs 18:34 5k, 37:16 10k, 1:18:50 half, and 2:52:46 for the marathon. If there is a local race, he is there! Tony talks about how he started running, then tackling marathons. He reminises about the "old" days were its was no gps, chip timing, and you just had to accept the time given. Tony talks about coaching and starting HRC which has seem some great runner emerge from the community. He discusses age categories for men and women as well as how long he thinks he can keep running for.
