EP 129 - Tracy Schreifels, Healing Prenatal Traumas

The thinking for infants and mental health had always been that they were too young to remember any potentially traumatic events. Upon further research, we’ve come to realize that although infants don’t store the memories in the same way, these events are stored in the body and can affect us later on in life.

    WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
    • What all the letters behind Tracy’s name mean and why they’re there
    • What exactly is Infant Mental Health and what it all entails
    • Why infants aren’t too young to remember traumas and how they store them
    • How Tracy can help people who have experienced scary things at a young age
    • Why it’s never too early or too late to intervene if there is possible past trauma
    • How your body stores and holds onto physical traumas over time
    • Why Tracy always works with children with their caregiver in the room
    • Tracy’s book recommendations for those looking to learn more
    • How Brain Spotting uses a “Happy Place” for you to retreat to in your brain

    FAVORITE QUOTE:

“If your parents are still around, maybe even asking them, ‘Did something happen when I was young that I would have had this memory or that this feeling comes up?’”

EP 128 - Wiley McArthur and Benjamin Terrell, Removing the Weight of Negative Emotion

We spend so much of our lives trying to move the needle, but it’s often made harder by the weight we unknowingly keep in tow. Every one of us carries some sort of weight with us, whether we know it or not. The good part is that we are more able to control the weight than we realize, we simply need to learn how.

    WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
    • Why Wiley is one of Lori’s favorite repeat guests to have on the podcast
    • Tips for realizing when you need to be really living in and learning from the moment
    • How acknowledging and naming your feelings can help you deal with them
    • How to use anger to your advantage as an advance warning system
    • How Wiley helped Ben lift the weight of negative emotion off of his brain
    • Why people spend more time planning vacations than their own futures
    • How to use anchors for your emotions including a demonstration for “confidence”
    • How your posture changes the way that you feel and how to game it

    FAVORITE QUOTE:

“The only purpose for a negative emotion is to protect you. That’s it. It’s a warning system. It’s a check engine light that says ‘I’m angry.’”

EP 127 - John McGhee, How Public Speakers Build Rapport

It doesn’t matter how good the information is that you’re providing if you’re not connecting with those you’re trying to reach. Your audience needs to be engaged or they will simply tune you out. There is no in between. Luckily, it’s a skill like anything else so it can be learned and improved upon.

    WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:

    • What it is about public speaking that really draws John in in a different way than speaking from the pulpit
    • John’s bits of advice for anyone getting into any form of public speaking
    • What John feels that the most important of public speaking is no matter what room you’re in
    • Why John feels volunteering in a church is good for any college grad to do and the things they will learn
    • Why holding a piece of paper in your hand while speaking is a barrier between you and your audience
    • Why you must come to terms with the fact that not everyone is going to like you if you want to be a leader
    • How indecision will paralyze any leader and why you must learn to make choices

    FAVORITE QUOTE:

“ Listen to the people around you. Listen to your advisors. Listen to whoever you trust in your business and then make the best decision you can… Ultimately, you have to make the decision.”
