  • Talking Oilers' return to the Stanley Cup Final with Ryder from Play 107
    Jun 2 2025

Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you kick off the rest of your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' return to the Stanley Cup Final, Ryder's career in radio, their upcoming trip to Florida, and more.

The guys kicked off the Monday episode of the Real Life podcast by welcoming Ryder from Play 107 to the show to help everyone get set for the Stanley Cup Final. Starting with a quick run through of Ryder's history in the city, and how it's been a remarkable journey for him to establish himself as a morning show host.

Getting back to the Oilers, the guys started with a picture Wanye found of Tyler from Game 4 against the Stars, and how Yaremchuk lept skyward after Corey Perry scored to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. They also touched on Liam's donair review after catching on Game 4, and how it was on one of the worst donairs he's ever had, but still ranks it as one of his favourites given the moment.

Next up, we walked through what everyone is expecting from the Stanley Cup Final and how everyone is feeling bullish about the SCF rematch, despite the boys being up against a strong Florida Panthers opponent. That led Jay to recap his trip to London, where Oilers signs were everywhere, prompting him to bet on the Oilers' moneyline based on the signs the Universe was providing him.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a conversation about everyone's game day routine. Much like you've heard from Chalmers over the years, Ryder confessed that coaching his daughter's softball team is really getting in the way of his love for Oilers playoff hockey. For those fans with children, it's a battle everyone knows well, but it's definitely a common issue during the playoffs.

(Apologies for audio issues with Bagged Milk's microphone at certain parts of the episode!)

  • Oilers have the chance to close out the Stars in Game 5
    May 29 2025

Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you through the rest of your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Game 5 against the Stars, superfan costumes, and much more.

The guys kicked off the website with a conversation about Game 5 against the Dallas Stars, and how everyone is feeling about the Oilers having another chance to close out the Western Conference Final. As much as everyone is excited about the Oilers' chances to get through to the final, no one is willing to disrespect the Stars, nor believe Dallas is going to be an easy out. As Leon Draisaitl after Game 4, closing this team out will take the team's best effort.

Changing gears, we looked at the Oilers' superfans who constantly hit the streets during the playoffs, and how much fun it is to see everyone dress up and get involved. From Banjo Guy's incredible costumes to Mama Stanley always being in the Moss Pit to McMullet driving in from Strathmore for every home game, the commitment from the fanbase to get involved and improve the atmosphere is unparalleled. Needless to say, there is no fan base that does it like Oilers fans.

Looking ahead to Thursday's game against Dallas, the guys discussed Mattias Ekholm's return to the lineup in favour of Troy Stecher and how that will alter the lineup's look, even though he hasn't played in months. They also discussed Jeff Skinner's return to the lineup for the first time since Game 1 against Los Angeles, and what he needs to do to stick for more than just a game or two.

  • Talking Oilers Game 3 win with Justin from Jacksonville
    May 26 2025

Monday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you kick off the rest of your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys welcomed Justin from Jacksonville to talk about his first trip to Edmonton, the Oilers' wins in Games 2 & 3, what the boys need to do in Game 4, and much more.

The guys started the Monday episode of Real Life by welcoming Justin from Jacksonville to the podcast and discussing how a guy from Florida became an Oilers fan despite two teams being in his backyard. Starting in the 2018-19 season, Justin wanted to commit to an NHL team but didn't want to jump on a bandwagon, so he landed on the Oilers after working through some internal metrics that made sense.

Diving into his first trip to Edmonton, Justin talked about how he ended up in the city earlier than expected because Jay promised him a ticket for Game 3 if he could get in on time. After changing his flights to get in a night early, Justin soaked up as much of Edmonton as he could with only a handful of hours before his first experience at Rogers Place. Getting into the game itself, Justin talked about how incredible the experience was to be at Rogers Place during the playoffs after watching it on TV for so many years.

Looking at the game itself, the boys discussed the Oilers' unbelievable Game 3 result and how it was actually the Stars' best game of the series despite losing by five goals. Starting with Stuart Skinner's brilliance between the pipes, the goalie gave the Oilers a chance to win despite being shelled through most of the second period. From a Stars perspective, how can they not be gripping the stick right now with the way they're being stonewalled at every turn.

Finally, Justin wrapped up his time on the podcast by giving the boys some gifts that he carried with him all the way from Jacksonville. From a collection of Floridian beers to some spirits from a local distillery to a corduroy hat that Jay has been wanting, the generosity was overwhelming and certainly appreciated.

  • Monetizing Tyler's wedding, music festivals, and the Oilers drop Game 1
    May 22 2025

Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you through the rest of your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed sponsorships for Tyler's wedding, the Oilers' Game 1 loss, the penalty kill disaster, and much more.

The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a discussion about the playoffs and how Jay is taking a loyal Oilers fan from Jacksonville to Game 3 on Sunday. As you'll hear, Jay has a flight to London less than four hours after puck drop and hearing him work through the time math was fascinating. Needless to say, the turnaround from game to airport is incredibly tight, and it will be a wild ride to follow through Sunday afternoon.

From there, the guys worked out a few ideas on how Tyler can monetize his wedding. Starting with the vows being sponsored by Oodle Noodle. While Tyler tried to push the narrative that there won't be any vows at his wedding, that didn't stop the boys from pitching different angles on getting the midnight dinner comped anyway. Will the boys get their way? Will Tyler avoid having logos everywhere on his special day?

Finally getting to the Oilers, the guys walked through the Game 1 disaster that saw Edmonton dominate for the first 40 minutes before soiling themselves in the final period. While that game ended as poorly as it did, the boys are still feeling confident that the Oilers will be able to figure it out and get back in the series. That said, there are plenty of details the Oilers need to clean up if they're planning to make that happen.

  • Oilers close out the Golden Knights, Leafs collapse, and arena etiquette
    May 15 2025

Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and is ready to help you through the rest of your workweek. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' series-clinching win, Stuart Skinner posting back-to-back shutouts, and much more.

The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life with a random conversation about Instagram ads and how you can sometimes be following an account only to have them pivot to the weirdest posts for cash. That led the guys to wonder what the model is for these accounts to abandon their normal content in favour of ads that annoy all of their followers. Clearly, there's money to be made, but is that angle the right one?

Turning back to the Oilers, the team walked through the series-clinching win in Game 5, discussing how it was an incredible victory given how tight the game ultimately shook out. The most impressive part of that win was how the Oilers were able to suppress the Golden Knights offensively, leaving them with next to nothing in the offensive zone. Equally impressive was the way Edmonton kept getting depth goals at key moments when we needed them most.

Changing gears, the guys took a look at some news from around the NHL to share their thoughts on what's been happening. Starting with Sam Gagner signing in Ottawa in player development to the Toronto Maple Leafs imploding on themselves in Game 5 at home, the Thursday episode of the podcast was all over the map and arguably the most fun the boys have had in a minute.

  • Oilers need a BIG Game 4 win
    May 12 2025

Nothing is better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to recap the weekend and start your week. On the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys discussed the Oilers' need for a win in Game 4, playoff shenanigans in the city, and much more.

The boys kicked off the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics around the Oilers' second round matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights. After losing Game 3 in the most painful fashion imaginable, the pressure is on Edmonton to turn things around or risk losing the advantage they built by winning the first two matchups. Even though this isn't a must-win game in the literal sense, it certainly feels like it in the spiritual sense.

Changing gears, producer Eli jumped onto the podcast to tell the story about our intern Padon getting kicked out of the Moss Pit for allegedly sneaking alcohol in. The problem with their theory, of course, is that Padon doesn't drink. Not only does he not drink alcohol, but the guy was wearing shorts and didn't have a bag of any type that would allow him even to try. Pivoting once again, Chalmers wanted to talk about banana cream pies after he crushed one over the weekend from Duchess Bake Shop. That led to a discussion about baking in general, including everyone's love of fresh bread with butter.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a Game 4 preview ahead of Monday's game against Vegas, and how there are a couple of line combo changes that have people raising an eyebrow. Talking line combos led to some betting talk for our friends at bet365, before wrapping up with the podcast with another run of random topics.

  • Oilers vs. Vegas, Utah Mammoth, and some unneeded banana talk
    May 8 2025

Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded, edited, and ready to help you through the rest of your work week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed Tuesday's Game 1 win, Calvin Pickard taking over the net, what to expect in Game 2, and much more.

The guys kicked off the Thursday episode of Real Life by discussing the Oilers' making it through Game 1 with one of their more complete postseason games so far. Given that everyone expected Vegas to blow them out, especially after dropping two goals early, watching the boys come roaring back over the final 50 minutes was every shade of fun. The question on everyone's mind after a win like that is whether the Oilers can keep the train rolling in Game 2.

Taking a hard pivot from the Oilers talk, the boys discussed the new pope getting announced earlier Thursday afternoon. Given that he will be known as Pope Leo, is that a good omen for our beloved Leon Draisaitl? The betting boys on the podcast certainly think so. Sticking with the papal talk, Wanye then told a story from when he was living in Mexico and had the airport shut down when the former pope landed in Mexico City.

Changing gears once again, Jay recapped his trip to Toronto with a story about how the city didn't seem that into the playoffs even though the Leafs were in Round 2. Jay spoke about how quiet bars and pubs were while he was there and how it was also a challenge to find anyone who would play the Oilers game. Somehow, taking shots at the city of Toronto led to a discussion about the Utah Mammoth logo reveal, and everyone also learned how much it bothers Tyler that the name wasn't pluralized.

  • Oilers vs. Kings recap, looking ahead at the Golden Knights, and two Game 7s
    May 5 2025

Nothing is better than a fresh episode of the Real Life podcast to recap the weekend and start your week. On the Monday episode of Real Life, the guys discussed the Oilers' series win, what to expect from the Vegas Golden Knights, and much more.

The boys were shorthanded for the Monday episode of Real Life, but Tyler, Chalmers, and Baggedmilk kicked off the podcast with a recap of their first round win over the Los Angeles Kings. While many of the pundits and experts felt this was the Kings' year to beat the Oilers finally, what actually happened was a fantastic display of resilience by an Edmonton crew that would not quit. As a result, the Kings announced that they've parted ways with Rob Blake as the team's GM only days after a fourth consecutive first-round exit.

Looking ahead at the Vegas Golden Knights, Tyler walked the boys through what to expect from their second round matchup vs. the Vegas Golden Knights. While there's little doubt the Golden Knights are a fantastic hockey club, Tyler also singled out some areas where the Oilers could have an advantage over the team that knocked them out of the playoffs two years ago. Changing gears, the guys then looked back at the two Game 7s that happened over the weekend, and how both games had the wildest endings you could ever hope to see.

Finally, the guys wrapped up the Monday episode of Real Life with a random collection of topics, including a look back at some of the stats from Oilers/Vegas from two years ago, depth scoring, tactics, and much more. Despite playing shorthanded for the Monday show, the boys worked through the hour with an array of topics that were all over the map.
