About this listen

After years of wandering in exile from Thebes, Oedipus arrives in a grove outside Athens. Blind and frail, he walks with the help of his daughter, Antigone. Father and daughter come to rest on the hallowed ground of the Eumenides, the Goddesses of Fate. It is the very ground that Oedipus was prophecised to die upon. An ancient tale of Gods, fate and prophecy, exclusively brought to you by Audible in a sensational new recording starring Hayley Atwell.©2016 Audible, Ltd. (P)2016 Audible, Ltd.

Incredibly well produced and well acted, the lines are performed exactly as I would have imagined reading them, a fantastic realization of a masterpiece of Greek Tragedy. Kudos to the actors, everyone who worked on the production, and the director for a delight of a listening experience that was as entertaining as it was enlightening to experience a play by Sophocles, even if it is only in auditory experience.

Best thing short of seeing an actual faithful stage performance

I expected to be somewhat bored while listening to these, and just wanted to get a sense of the content for research purposes — but the performances were truly powerful and engaging. I’d recommend this free series to anyone interested in Ancient Greek tragedy.

I absolutely loved it though I wished it was in the correct order. I just love Atwell!!

Outstanding performance

The performances are still rock solid in this one, but the story this time is a lot less focused than the previous. The main ‘macguffin’ of people fighting over Oedipus never really made sense to me in the first place, which sort of hurt the narrative drive. But this still had some great stuff, and I loved how it connected to other Greek myths. [AUDIBLE]

これもすごいパーフォマンスがあったけど話が前よりフォカス低かった

Less focused than the first, but narration still top notch

All I could ask for! Lively translation. Music that sets scenes eerie. Actors very powerful.
