  • On Cue Goes to Summer Camp
    May 27 2025

This episode marks the end of On Cue, Season 1!

Trish is going off to shoot a movie; Liz is preparing to create a brand new music library; and while we're away, our beloved podcast is going to summer camp.

It'll be hard to say goodbye to our baby for a while, but we've made the perfect summer camp playlist for her in our absence. From her first night away from home to stargazing with her first crush... from horseback riding to frolicking in the lake... this is the ultimate summer camp music experience. Hope you and yours enjoy this new season, wherever it takes you.

We'll miss you all and can't wait to see you for Season 2!

🍹 This week’s cocktail or mocktail: BUG JUICE. The original classic is simply purple Kool-Aid, served ice cold and straight up. The cocktail version is equal parts Sông Cái red hibiscus gin, Campari, and Blue Curaçao, shaken over ice and strained into a cold glass. Garnish with a toothpick skewer of mini-marshmallows and purple grapes.

The catchy theme song and opening of Disney's show Bug Juice is here!

⭐️ Trish's Favorite Thing This Week: You! Our listeners, supporters and friends who have made this first season so much fun for us. THANK YOU!

  • Oliver & Violet Present: The Switch
    May 13 2025

This week, we’re joined by the outrageously imaginative best friend duo Oliver (age 9) and Violet (age 10), who are taking over the podcast with their very own original film concept: The Switch. This high-stakes, laugh-out-loud body-swap adventure stars none other than Taylor Swift and Jack Black, who find themselves entangled in a mystical encounter with a Sphinx and some ancient Egyptian dark magic and end up in each other's bodies.

🎬 The Switch is directed by Violet and music supervised by Oliver. Expect a wildly imaginative film and soundtrack - these two know how to set a scene.

🍹 This week’s mocktail: The Switch
Featuring a mysterious and surprisingly tasty blend of:

    • Cranberry/Apple Juice
    • Splash of Chocolate Extract
    • Splash of Red Velvet Extract

Shake with ice, strain and serve.

⭐️ Violet’s Favorite Thing This Week: Skipping school. Because making movie magic > long division.
📊 Oliver’s Favorite Thing This Week: The upcoming Business Week at school. CEO energy, incoming.

  • Alice and Wind In The Willows
    May 6 2025

This week, we’re joined by the absolutely delightful Alice Von Simson of Gluten Free and Giggly fame. Alice brings her signature irreverence and charm to the pod as she dives into a bold re-scoring of the 1983 animated classic The Wind in the Willows—but makes it UK Garage. Think Mr. Toad speeding down the lane with So Solid Crew blasting in the background. Yes, please.

🍸 This week’s cocktail (or shall we say… tasting experience) A Moonshine Flight! Featuring:

    • Banana Pudding
    • Butter Pecan
    • Mountain Java

All from Ole Smoky Moonshine, because sometimes you need your nostalgia with a little burn and a lot of sugar.

🥣 Liz’s Favorite Thing This Week:
Chickpeas. Yes. Chickpeas. Roasted, stewed, blended, or straight from the can—we support the obsession.

  • Anders Larsson & Ladyhawke
    Apr 29 2025

Welcome to On Cue, Anders Larsson! Anders is a musician, photographer, and journalist. The bulk of his work is currently focused on Weirdo Music Forever, which is his photographic and journalistic project documenting the L.A. (and beyond!) underground artistic community. WMF highlights the work of musicians, visual artists, clowns, sex workers, poets, comedians, actors, dancers, and more. Anders makes his own music as Creative Audio Laboratory. CAL is
produced by his friend and collaborator Jason Falkner.

Anders picked the fantasy film Ladyhawke (1985) for an exploration into how musical choices impact a movie and the way it lands for audiences.

Plus, Trish's favorite thing this week is her neighbor's windchimes. And whaddya know-- that neighbor is ANDERS!

We love hearing from you! Got a question or topic for discussion in a future episode? Please email us or send a voice memo to hello@oncuepodcast.com.

This episode is produced and edited by Kathleen Gallacher.

This week's cocktail or mocktail-- THE LADYHAWKE:

First, make a pineapple shrub by boiling 1 fresh chopped-up pineapple (or a bag of frozen pineapple) in 3 cups of water and 1 cup of agave syrup. Simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. When cool, add 1 cup of champagne vinegar and transfer into a jar in the fridge.

    For the drink itself:

1½ oz Cachaça (for mocktail, use Caleño Dark & Spicy)

    2 oz pineapple shrub

Combine the ingredients over ice in a shaker. Shake and strain into an inviting little glass and garnish with fresh or dried edible flowers.

  • Trish's Dream Film: Wormhole Showerhead
    Apr 22 2025

It's Trish's turn to direct her fantasy film, the genre-bending Wormhole Showerhead. Part magical realism, part comedy, part action movie, this chaotic ride is best described as Jumper meets Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World meets Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Plus, this week Liz's favorite thing is the Frida Kahlo museum.

We love hearing from you! Got a question or topic for discussion in a future episode? Please email us or send a voice memo to hello@oncuepodcast.com.

This episode is produced and edited by Kathleen Gallacher.

    This week's cocktail-- THE WORMHOLE:

Liz brought a luscious bottle of El Zacatecano mezcal straight from Zacatecas, Mexico, and taught us how to drink it properly. Serve 1½ oz of premium mezcal straight up in a sexy little glass, plus a few sections of fresh orange sprinkled with sal de gusano (worm salt) on the side. Start by putting a couple drops of mezcal on the back of your hand and sniffing it for the fragrance. Then sip the mezcal slowly, following each sip with a bite of wormy salty orange.

  • Time Traveling Back to 1986
    Apr 15 2025

This week, we take a listener's suggestion and jump into the wayback machine to relive 1986 in music and movies. Thanks for the excellent inspiration, Jennifer! We dive into the films and songs that shaped our young, hormonal lives nearly FORTY (gulp) years ago now.

Plus, Trish's favorite thing this week is the The Hollywood Dog Obedience Club.

We love hearing from you! Got a question or topic for discussion in a future episode? Please email us or send a voice memo to hello@oncuepodcast.com.

This episode is produced and edited by Kathleen Gallacher.

This week's cocktail or mocktail-- THE B52 BOMBER SHOT:

½ oz coffee liquor (for mocktail, use sweetened coffee)

½ oz Irish cream (for mocktail, use half and half)

½ oz orange liquor (for mocktail, use a squirt of simple syrup diluted in water with 3 drops of orange extract)

In a shot glass, pour the coffee liquor first, then tilt the glass as you slowly add the cream so it runs down the side of the glass to float on top. Lastly, carefully add the orange (glass still tilted) so it floats on the cream.

  • The Process of Creating a Film Score
    Apr 8 2025

This week, we go deep into the weeds answering a listener's question: HOW DOES A FILM SCORE COME TO EXIST?

From choosing a composer, to creating a temporary reference score, to developing unique music to serve your film's vision-- it's a fascinating journey to watch a score emerge as an integral part of your finished movie.

Plus, Liz's favorite thing this week is the Netflix show Adolescence.

We love hearing from you! Got a question or topic for discussion in a future episode? Please email us or send a voice memo to hello@oncuepodcast.com.

1 oz Galliano (for a mocktail, use fresh lemon juice with 3 drops of vanilla extract, 2 drops of anise extract)
