About this listen
In this conversation with my university friend, Jalil, we discuss the necessity to make money stretch, the romance in friendship, and civic engagement. Jalil shares how his time at our alma mater impacted the trajectory of his life, specifically the relationships he was able to establish during those years. He opens up about his childhood and how he learned the meaning of 'no te dejas' from his siblings; we decided in the context of our conversation it translates to "don't let anyone play you". We also talk about learning to play as adults and figuring out what is actually fun and healthy play. Jalil has started grad school and is set on a path to serve in public office. He tells us what the journey has been like for him and the many ways he intentionally builds community with his neighbors. Calling all community builders, activist, social workers and people who care about the humanity around them-- this episode is for you!
