  • Episode 9: Rhythm of the Rain
    Apr 20 2025
Rhythm of the Rain is a Spoken Word song that was written and recorded in 2006 and was a poem that birthed my love and connection to the rain. I tell three stories about teenage love, heartbreak, and an intimate music listening date that all had nature's poetic precipitation as the backdrop. The rain turned my saddest and most lonely moments into introspection, reflection and euphoria. My narration of the three stories was an impromptu and spontaneous recording while I was driving home in the morning rain in early April 2025. It was one take and no edits. Right after narrate my backstory I introduce the poetry that has motion with nature'watery snare. The clouds held my sonic tears so I could share my joy and pain. An urban dystopia is my utopia as I walk to the rhythm of the rain. Walter P.o.p. Matthews IV

  • Sublime: A Halftime Redefined
    Feb 19 2025
This is a short bonus episode about my thoughts on Kendrick Lamar's Superbowl Halftime show. It's an event that will be talked about in music history for many years. It was one of those where were you moments. In my life it was when I saw Micheal perform Billie Jean at Motown 25, The first time I heard Nirvana and now Kendrick Lamar performing at the 2025 Superbowl Halftime show. It was masterful art. A sonic painting in motion right before our eyes. As a producer and fan of music I felt pure joy that mindful music had the biggest stage of the year. Walter P.o.p. Matthews IV

  • The November Wind That I'm Standing In: EP 7
    Nov 7 2024
I recorded this November 1, 2024 and it was nice to do a journal/ rooftop recording. I allowed my spontaneous thoughts to be as free flowing as the wind that was tossing around the leaves and swaying the trees. It was just a quick catch up with to see where I'm at in this moment of time. I hope you enjoy. Walter P.o.p. Matthews IV

  • The Cosmos and The Canvas: Episode 6
    Oct 30 2024
In episode 6, I return in real-time on 10-25-24. It was a clear, crisp Autumn night, and when I go out on my rooftop in the middle of the night, it's always the recipe for inspiration. The big dipper, the crescent moon, and the constellations were my audiences for my 21-minute monologue. My most extended recorded one take to date. I felt fully immersed in this ocean of planets, solar system, and galaxies, all contrasted by the blackest void of space. While recording, I saw two meteorites (Falling stars), which enhanced my experience. I named it The Cosmos and The Canvas because I felt like my words were painted, and my imagination was the empty canvas and was as vast as the universe I was staring into. I plan to continue these rooftop recordings and release the others I've already recorded.

  • A Voice Evolved ( No Music)
    Oct 22 2024
A poem about overcoming my self consciousness about my speaking voice. This is the poem without music A Voice Evolved A voice of self-consciousness A voice of doubt A child trapped in a dark room Wanting to go forth In the remote wilderness but No one can hear my scream They don’t hear the real me I often wasn’t seen They see what they want to see They listen to what they want to hear I begin to hear their distorted audio Of my vocals So begins the fear People thought silenced me I became stagnant and stuck Until one day, I stopped giving a… You know what Exactly. You filled it in right. The voice of many waters Broke through My self-critical dam Flooding I spoke life into who I am A voice that is born A voice that’s me A voice that has now evolved P.O.P. is free.

  • The Evolved Voice
    Oct 22 2024
I randomly recorded a mindful message and I stopped for a moment to realize how far I've come in being confident with my speaking voice. It's been a journey and I'm proud of myself. I captured the thought and I added a poem of my journey. Walter P.o.p. Matthews IV

  • Episode 5: The Ethically Immoral Interview
    Sep 11 2024
In episode five, I go back four years to December 2020, when I reunited with a long-time friend and collaborator, Mike Payne, host of The Ethically Immoral Podcast. This is part 3 of 4 of the P.O.P. PRESENTS interview series. We met right at the birth of social media as we know it. Yes, it was the dawn of it because Facebook was born in 2004, and we met on a website called Hi 5 in 2005. This website housed a chat forum called AAP ( African American Poetry), which developed my poetry skills. Then, in 2006, Mike recognized my growing popularity as a poet and suggested I create my writing forum. I knew I didn't have the discipline to keep up and maintain a writing forum, but I saw the administrative gifts in him, so we put our brains together and created The Mecca Lounge writing community. I inspired the conception, but Mike's diligence and hard work executed, built, and maintained a fantastic platform that gave us a home to write, read, support, and hone our skills. The community of writers thrived. Our platform was the Medium of 2006, founded in 2012, and I joined as a reader and writer in 2020. Mike Payne was also a trailblazer in the podcast movement with a show on blog talk radio in 2007 in which he had me on as a producer. In this, we cover the span of my artistry from 2004 to the present. We had known each other for 15 years at the time of this interview, so Mike saw my creative pivots, changes, and evolution as a writer, rapper, music producer, and photographer. We cover many topics in 90 minutes, the closest thing I have to an audiobook memoir. So take a 3-mile walk or a long scenic drive and dive into Episode 5: The Ethically Immoral Inner View, hosted by Mike Payne and featuring. Walter P.o.p. Matthews IV
