  • #150: Remember Your Parent Rights
    Jul 23 2024

In this final episode of the Parent Them Successful Podcast, I wanted to leave you with a reminder about your parent rights. Knowing your parent rights is crucial as you advocate for the best quality education possible in your child’s educational journey. You are truly their best advocate. Use your parent rights as a guide to help you hold schools accountable for providing your child with the education that they are supposed to receive. In this episode, I leave you with my final thoughts as I close out my podcasting journey. I discuss parent rights for children on IEP’s, 504 Plans, and for those not in a particular program (General Education). So, tune in until the end to hear my insights on what you need to hold fast to while you help your child thrive.

  • #149: Could My Child Have a Hearing Defect?
    Jul 16 2024

In this episode of the Parent Them Successful Podcast, we uncover what to look for if you believe your child has an undetected hearing defect. In the IEP world, hearing defects, or as IDEA calls it, possible “Hard of Hearing” eligibility, is considered a low-incidence eligibility category. That means that this eligibility category is somewhat rare and special funding is set aside for these students to access equipment and other tools they may need to access the general curriculum. So, if you suspect your child is suffering from a hearing defect, I will share what to look for, misbehaviors that are often misdiagnosed, and treatment options. So, tune in until the end to learn more about what you need to know.

    Resources Mentioned in This Episode:

    Professional Organizations:

    • American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
    • National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD)

  • #148: When I Was Growing Up, My Mama Said...
    Jul 9 2024

In this episode, I did something a little different. Have you ever looked at your own parenting style and compared it to how you were parented growing up? Maybe you have certain traditions or sayings that your parents used when parenting you or perhaps it’s how you nurture your child’s talents. Sometimes we also may notice some of the things our parents did that we may not want to carry on in our own parenting journey and that’s perfectly fine, too. If you are co-parenting, you must take on a style that joins both of your backgrounds together. If you are single parenting, you may have to make adjustments based on your particular circumstance using whatever support system you have. Well, growing up in a single-parent home allowed me to see many of the sacrifices my mother had to make but the way she parented me also made me the person I am today. So, I interviewed my mother, Linda Sagoe, in this episode to impart her wisdom to all of us.
