  • Art Market Collapse?
    Jun 2 2025

Why did the star lot of the spring season, a bronze head by the master sculptor Alberto Giacometti, fail to sell at Sotheby’s?Alberto Giacometti’s 1955 bust, “Grande tête mince" (“Big Thin Head”), carried a pre-sale estimate of $70 million in Sotheby’s Modern evening auction. The auctioneer started the bidding at $59 million dollars. But no one bid - the piece went unsold. It was the second high-profile lot to disappoint in two days. Andy Warhol’s “Big Electric Chair” (1967-68) was withdrawn from Christie’s 20th century evening auction the day before. • The Alarming Rise in Global Debt!
    May 26 2025

Developed economies around the world have been growing their debts over the last twenty-five years. This was less of a problem when interest rates were close to zero but in the era of trade wars, lower credit ratings and higher interest rates, debt is more expensive to issue and service. Bond investors have worried that governments are addicted to debt for quite some time, and recent drama in the Japanese bond market along with the deficit spending of Trump's "one big beautiful bill" lead many to question the ability of governments to cover massive budget deficits. This video looks at the drivers of growing government debt, what the money is spent on, can Elon Musk's DOGE cut spending and analyze the role of the 'bond vigilantes', to understand if huge budget deficits and government borrowing could spiral out of control. Patrick Boyle On Finance is one of my favorite podcasts, it is informative & witty. Great YouTube channel too. I listen to this for markets wisdom and to the Shane Parish The Knowledge Project Podcast for business wisdom.

Patrick has a sharp wit, sarcasm to rival Larry David, and a storytelling knack that makes this a really great listen. He makes finance and trading fun again. Thanks!

I came for the rap and stayed for the wrap-up on finance. I have to write some words though, I'm renowned for my terse and accurate reviews and generally frown on loquaciousness and unneeded repetition or verbosity. I can only hope the fans of my reviews don't cancel me for being so off-brand in this review.

The best podcast on rap I've ever heard

I'd rather listen to Mr.Boyle over anything else available on Audible. That says it all.

Outstanding depth of knowledge and wonderful wit
