  • Eve Hates Change: We Review "Brotherhood in Death"
    Feb 1 2025

**WE HAVE A NEW MERCH STORE! Now until the end of February, get 10% off all our merch!! http://podcast-in-death-merch.printify.me/

"Brotherhood in Death" is at it's core, a book about change. And we all know how much Eve hates change. But, unfortunately for her, Roarke wants her to change her office, and that sparks an argument. The main case is really a hard read, but it's probably not a stretch to say that everyone involved in those crimes, the perpetrators and victims were profoundly changed due to the crimes that were committed. Trueheart changes from an officer to a detective. So lots of change here.

This is such a great read, and a lot of that is because we love Dennis Mira and this book contains a lot of really great Dennis Mira moments. Most specifically his moments with Eve, all of which are so sweet, even when Eve is questioning him about his cousin's murder.

There's also plenty of really great funny moments here, most specifically the creepy doll room, and Eve telling Peabody to "Put the dicks in the box with the asses" and Peabody answering, "You know what's going to happen with a penis and two asses in the same box, right?"

Overall, a great book, and one of our favorites.

  • Never a Good Reason: We Discuss Motives
    Jan 25 2025

In this episode of Podcast in Death, we specifically look at some of the motives that our killers have had in this series and discuss whether or not we feel they are justified. TO BE CLEAR: There is never a good reason to kill someone! BUT, there could be circumstances that might make it more understandable. Because this episode went a bit long, we look at books from "Naked" to "Imitation," and will discuss other books of the series at another time.

Also, this episode starts off with a completely different subject: The Credits system in the "In Death" world, and how it might work.

  • Eve's Annoyed Again: Starting POV's
    Jan 18 2025

In this episode we talk about the POV that starts each book in the series and what it might say about each book. Among the things we discover by doing this episode is that Eve is often annoyed when a book starts with her POV. Also, so many of these books are about women getting revenge.

  • Who's Rosie?? We Review the Reviews of "Wonderment in Death"
    Jan 11 2025

On this episode, We review the reviews of "Wonderment in Death." As you all know, this book wasn't one of our favorites, so, we are in the unusual position of not having a lot to say about the bad reviews on this one. BUT... we do go on a little rant about an author who gives the book a bad review and AJ goes on an even smaller rant about cilantro (which really has nothing to do with the books or the reviews).

  • Too Many Bras: We Review "Wonderment in Death"
    Dec 28 2024

This book is the last one of the novellas, and we hate to say that we're relieved. Tara stated that she liked this book as much as she liked "Chaos," and that is to say she didn't really like it much at all. AJ just finds this book a bit silly, not to mention the fact that twice "talking to the dead" is mentioned and Eve rolls her eyes when EVE LITERALLY TALKED TO THE DEAD IN "POSSESSION IN DEATH!!" That being said, there are some funny moments in the book, so it is still an okay book from that standpoint. We both love when Roarke says the "didn't come down in the last shower of rain," and the end where Eve and Peabody are both under the influence after taking down the bad guy. Also, for some reason, Eve is a bit judgmental over the fact that one of the victims had "over a dozen bras," which to us seems a normal amount (and we're sure that Eve has WAY more bras/support tanks in her closet).

  • It's Our 2024 Holiday Episode!
    Dec 21 2024

In this 2024 Holiday Episode, we imagine a year where, Eve and Roarke are so busy with their jobs or with that they did not have time to plan their annual Christmas Party. This is unacceptable to Mavis, so Mavis decides to plan a surprise Christmas party for Eve and Roarke (which Roarke would love and Eve would hate). But Eve and Roarke realize they don't have gifts for anyone at the party, so they rush to their gift room to find gifts for everyone.

So, given this scenario, we found 30 luxury gifts that they might find in the gift room, one gift for each person at the party. We will say a character name randomly, and then we will both decide what gift Eve and Roarke would give each of their friends. It's a really fun episode!

We hope you enjoy the episode and Happy Holidays!

  • Stop Making Eve Funny! We Review the Reviews of "Devoted in Death"
    Dec 14 2024

In this episode, we Review the Reviews of "Devoted in Death." We knew they were going to be bad (for the most part). But we're always surprised at how many people continue to read and review these books who clearly don't like the characters, the writing, and essentially the series itself. We've decided it's a kink...they get off on reading books they don't like and then writing reviews talking about how the author needs to stop writing the books you hate. Makes no sense. But anyway...

Among those are the people who said:

    • "S&M and torture? Thanks but no thanks."
    • "I don't pay for sloppy work. At all."
    • "Hate romance novels disguised as thriller."
    • "..this series really needs to end."
    • "...it seems like it's always Christmas, about to be Christmas or just after Christmas."
    • "...extreme foul language used by Eve"

Not to mention the review in all caps that said: "MORE OF THIS IRRITATING TREND OF TRYING TO MAKE EVE FUNNY - I JUST KNOW IT WAS VERY NOTICEABLE TO ME. AND, I DON'T LIKE IT..."

Among the good reviews, we have:

    • "I listened on Audio and as usual Susan Ericksen does a fab job!"
    • "Pulpy fun, routine formula but well written..."
    • "...the sizzling speed and urgency of the investigation keep the reader turning pages quickly."

Plus, we talk about a LOL moment that we missed on the last episode, Roarke metaphorically marks his territory with Eve, and we're really upset to realize that we were hoping to read "Brotherhood in Death" next, but it's actually the last novella of the series: "Wonderment in Death." BOO!
