About this listen

One of George Bernard Shaw's best known plays, Pygmalion was a rousing success on the London and New York stages which also became an entertaining motion picture and a great hit with its musical version, My Fair Lady.

In this Audible Original dramatisation Stephen Fry stars as phonetics expert Professor Henry Higgins who takes on a bet that in a matter of months he can transform cockney flower seller Eliza Doolittle, played by Daisy Edgar Jones, into a woman as poised and well-spoken as a duchess.

Shaw’s tale of love and the class system is performed by Tia Bannon, Tallulah Bond, Joanna David Daisy Edgar-Jones, Stephen Fry, Tom Glenister, Celia Imrie, Sir Derek Jacobi and Timothy Spall.

Outstanding rendition! It's been decades since I read the actual play and I've forgotten how very clever and funny it is. Mr. Dolittle is to die for! So refreshing to dip into Shaw's crisp cynical prose without the Hollywood trappings of which he makes such fun before ever having lived to see the corrupted version (sorry, all the MFL fans!)

Bravo!

Listening to this again, and understanding where I have come from and where I was brought by education and transplantation, I understand that I am Eliza. I cannot go back. I cannot go forward. There is really no place for me. I feel for this character and I want to watch Mr. Shaw was trying to say in this amazing book. – – Dr. Hurst

I loved the movie first when I was a wee one. I’ve never seen it on stage but would absolutely love to do so. This is a grand second option.

Love this story!

Fantastic production and performance by all; Stephen Fry is a joy to listen to. I would list in the description narrators and parts they narrate. I hope Audible will continue producing these originals.

well done!
Prof Higgins was maddeningly superb of course.
Col. Pickering was courtly and suave and adorable.
Eliza was extremely believable and likeable.
I liked this production as well as My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn, and that movie is one of my favorites!

loved the new (to me) ending.

This is the best version of pig Mayleon that you were going to find an audible. Stephen Fry is brilliant as usual. I really liked all of the cast in this one. I hope there are more of these.
