    Apr 24 2025

On this week’s episode, I am joined by Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and collaborator with LEONARD COHEN, PERLA BATALLA, who discusses her good friend/creative muse and her thoughts on the film 'LEONARD COHEN: I'M YOUR MAN.'

We discuss Perla’s childhood and escape from her family into a life in music, her Mom’s record store, working for T.V. legend Norman Lear documenting The Jeffersons & One Day At A Time, her surprisingly frantic introduction to Leonard Cohen’s music and the man himself, musician Julie Christensen, working with Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright & Beth Orton, being fired from the rock n’ roll world, how Leonard’s lyrics cracked Perla’s open emotionally, the pressures of being Leonard Cohen and what audiences expected from him, being a superstar in Europe, his album The Future, Cohen’s work discipline, the flexibilty of Cohen’s work leading artistic interruptations by others, how the concerts for Leonard Cohen came about through legendary producer Hal Wilner, why Leonard did not want to be in the film, the emotions of touring, how Perla worked her magic to get certain songs in the concert, why U2 is so prominent in the film even thought they were not in the concert itself, the problems we both have with this film, how the hell did Mel Gibson become a produer on the film, Laurie Anderson being involved in the prerfomrances originally, Leonard writing songs critizing his record company and more...

  • 'WILD ZERO' w/ Jim Hickcox
    Apr 17 2025

On this week’s episode, I'm joined by filmmaker Jim Hickcox (Slow Creep, Soft Matter), who brings us the greatest zombie/rock film of all time, WILD ZERO, starring Guitar Wolf!!! We discuss the Japanese garage rock scene and Guitar Wolf’s stature within it, what is Jet Rock N’ Roll, how Guitar Wolf made the loudest record ever recorded, Bass Wolf & Drum Wolf’s non-stop hair combing in this movie, Guitar Wolf’s pro-Trans stance in the film, going to video stores rather than record stores while on tour, how the film’s visual style predates Shaun Of The Dead, fast vs. slow zombies, how the concert footage of Guitar Wolf in the movie is incredible, the choice of killing the best characters early in a film, how the film has a surprisingly enormous heart, squibs & head explosions, the Aerosmith arcade game, filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki, Jim’s dance sequence at the end of his film, the difficulties of recommending horror films to others, the unfilled plot to Wild Zero 2 and I go through an utter transformation during the recording of this episode.

So come scream “Love Is Love” into a flaming microphone while lightning strikes the stage on this week’s episode of Revolutions Per Movie!

  • 'UNKNOWN PASSAGE: THE DEAD MOON STORY' w/ Jenny Don't & Kelly Halliburton
    Apr 10 2025

This week, I'm joined by Jenny Don’t & Kelly Halliburton (Jenny Don’t & The Spurs & Pierced Arrows), who discuss their bandmates/dear friends Fred & Toody Cole and the documentary UNKNOWN PASSAGE: THE DEAD MOON STORY.

We also discuss how my very first Country/Western show was seeing Fred & Toody’s band Western Front, Jenny and Kelly’s wildly different entry points into Punk and Country, Jenny learning to sing using an answering machine, The Cole’s approach to get the job done with limited resources, how Kelly first met Fred Cole at the age of 8 because his Dad was already in a band with Fred, The Wipers, Poison Idea, the love for Dead Moon in Europe, the kindness of Andrew Loomis and the monster drummer he was, the origin of post-Dead Moon band Pierced Arrows and Kelly’s time as drummer with Fred & Toody, what is was like touring with The Coles & their late night casino adventures, how the doc captures the dampness of Portland, The Lollipop Shoppe and motorcycle exploitation films, the difficulties with crossing country borders with the Coles, how Pierced Arrows wrote their songs, a walkthrough of The Coles' one-of-a-kind house, Chris being to afraid to play the guitar he was going to buy in front of Fred Cole, The Cole's early bands The Rats & King Bee, how Fred Cole discovered punk rock at a Ramones show, ageism in early punk rock, The Dead Moon huddle and the Pierced Arrows 'ring power' ritual, how supportive the band was of the opening bands they played with, Mike Watt, Toody Cole continuing to rock, being a lifer in music while being in a couple band and so much more...

So let's huddle over that melted candle shoved into a Jack Daniel's bottle on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie!
