About this listen

In 2017, Devon Arthurs went from neo-Nazism to Islamic extremism, and he allegedly murdered his two roommates in defense of his new Muslim faith. In Radicalized, a seven-part docu-series, reporter Max Kutner investigates how Devon went from one extreme to another, shedding light on the online pathways to radicalization. He discovers maybe neo-Nazis & jihadis have more in common than we think.

Political parties aside, the entire point of this was to shed light on the hatred that is still prevelant in America and it's impact. It was informative and accurate.

Good Story, could have flowed better. Episodes would abruptly end. Not a fan of audible app for podcasts.

This is a fascinating podcast that goes beyond the investigation of this one bizarre case to analyze the process of online radicalizatiion of young men more generally. It includes interviews with academic experts on extremism and the family members of Devon Athurs and his neo-Nazi room-mates, whom he murdered. All of the families seemed shocked to discover that their teenaged kids were becoming Nazis by interacting with far-right online activists.

Devin is clearly an exception but he does represent the vulnerability of anyone in their 20s. The story is balanced, sensitively told and necessary to hear. My takeaway was one line that stated that the acceleration of the radicalism is fueled through the Internet and that it has changed over the last few years to become a significant problem. It is a few individuals but in the USA an individual can cause havoc due to the lax weapon laws.

A well balanced and illuminating look into the growing issue of white nationalist domestic terrorism, the radicalization of impressionable young people who are preyed upon in their most angst ridden formative years.
