  • S5:E4-Acts 5:34-42-A member of the religious high council advised them against killing Jesus' followers.
    Apr 13 2025

We continue our verse-by-verse study of Acts, chapter 5, focusing on verses 34–42 as we close out the chapter. This passage picks up during the trial of Jesus’ apostles, who were once again arrested for teaching that Jesus died for the sins of humanity.

After Peter boldly explained to the high council why they continued to proclaim Jesus, the council became enraged and wanted to put the apostles to death. However, a respected and well-educated Pharisee named Gamaliel stood up and offered wise counsel. He reminded the council that if this movement was of human origin, it would eventually fade away on its own. But if it was from God, there would be no way to stop it—and they would find themselves fighting against God Himself.

The council took Gamaliel’s advice and decided not to execute the apostles. However, they still had them beaten and once again ordered them never to speak in the name of Jesus.

In response, the apostles rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus' name. And without hesitation, they went right back to teaching—every single day—that Jesus is the Messiah!

  • S5:E3-Acts 5:17-33-Jesus' followers are arrested again for teaching about Jesus, but an angel breaks them out of the jail
    Mar 31 2025

We continue our study of Acts chapter 5. We look at verses 17-33. We examine that the apostles are arrested once again for teaching the people about Jesus, repentance, and forgiveness of sin. An angel breaks them out of jail before they are tried before the religious leaders' high council. The angel instructs them to return to the temple to continue to teach about Jesus. The high council does not know that the apostles are gone until after they send the temple guards to bring them to court. To the temple guards' surprise, the apostles are no longer in the jail although the jail's locks have not been tampered with, and the other guards have been there the whole time. They report this to the high council. While this is being reported to the high council, the high council gets startling news that the apostles that they had arrested are back at the temple teaching about Jesus. The apostles again are arrested and brought before the high council. The high council confronts the apostles about disobeying its order not to teach about Jesus. Peter replies that they have to obey God and not them. Peter explains how the religious leaders had Jesus murdered, but God raised Jesus from the dead. Peter further explained that God placed Jesus at His right hand as Prince and Savior. After the religious leaders heard this, they decided to kill the apostles.

  • S5-E2-Acts 5:1-16-Ananias and Sapphira lie to God; More and more people believed in Jesus and were brought to the Lord!
    Mar 27 2025

    Send us a text

In this episode we start our look at chapter 5, verses 1-16, of the Book of Acts. As chapter 4 ends with the story of Barnabas selling his land to support other believers in need, chapter 5 opens with the story of a married couple, Ananias and Sapphira, who sell their land but lied to God about giving all of the proceeds from the sale to the apostles to help support other believers in need. As a result, they both lose their lives. Afterwards, great fear gripped the entire church. God should be praised and feared. The fear did not stop people from coming to Jesus; however, because "More than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women." Amen!

  • S5:E1-Acts 4:23-47-Jesus' disciples pray for boldness to teach about Jesus after being arrested
    Feb 2 2025

    Send us a text

We finish chapter 4 of the Book of Acts. We look at verses 23-37. John and Peter were arrested for teaching people about Jesus. After being freed, they tell the other disciples about being arrested for teaching about Jesus. Then Jesus' disciples pray for boldness to continue to teach about Jesus in the face of persecution. God answered their prayer as the place where they were miraculously shook, and they continued to teach the people about Jesus with boldness. We see Jesus' followers being united in heart and mind as they were led by the Holy Spirit. We see Jesus' disciples being led by the Holy Spirit to share everything with one another as there was a great need because many of the followers didn't have anything.

    Nov 25 2024

    Send us a text

We start chapter 4 of the Book of Acts. We look at verses 1-22. The religious leaders have Peter and John arrested for telling the crowd about Jesus after the healing of the crippled man at the Jewish Temple. Peter, who once was afraid of the religious leaders, but who is now empowered by the Holy Spirit, boldly tells the religious leaders that they killed Jesus. He tells them that God raised Jesus from the dead and the crippled man was healed by the power of Jesus. The religious leaders warn Peter and John not to speak or teach about Jesus again. Peter and John respond to their threat by asking them, "Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him?" Peter and John say that they will not stopping talking about Jesus. Although Peter and John tell the religious leaders this, they release Peter and John because Peter and John had not done anything illegal. And because the religious leaders were afraid of the people because the people knew the healing of the man who had been crippled for 40 years was a miracle.
