That place is the Permian Basin, the highest-producing oil field in the United States. Located in West Texas and southeastern New Mexico, this sedimentary basin has been pumping out crude oil and natural gas for decades.

    Let's talk about the numbers. The Permian Basin produces an average of 4.2 million barrels of crude oil per day, accounting for 20% of US crude oil production and 7% of US dry natural gas production. It's a behemoth of an oil field, with cumulative production of over 33 billion barrels of oil and 118 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

    But how does it all work? Well, it starts with the geology. They're partnering with Black & Veatch subsidiary Diode Ventures to develop and finance utility-scale solar projects, helping independent oil players and other companies lower their emissions without breaking the bank.

    As we look to the future, the Permian Basin is expected to continue growing. The Energy Information Administration forecasts that crude oil production in the Permian region will increase by 430,000 barrels per day from 2023 to 6.3 million barrels per day in 2024 and 6.6 million barrels per day in 2025. That's thanks to improvements in drilling productivity and the implementation of more advanced drilling and completion techniques.
