This week, we bring you a new perspective on the world of security and defence, with which you may be unfamiliar. Without security, there can be no development, and even less sustainable development.

Climate change is underway, and must remain the top priority for all of us. In recent years, the defense industry too has recognized that the growing challenges can only be met in the long term with sustainable solutions. Much remains to be done, but experts are looking to the future with optimism.

As operating conditions become tougher and tougher, and products have to continue to function and perform in certain environments, the whole industry is changing its way of thinking. The seriousness of the current situation was brought home recently when Russia attacked Ukraine, suddenly making energy a rare and extremely expensive commodity.

Today, the Swedish manufacturer, SAAB, shows us the commitments it has been making for many years. In 2021, they mapped out the areas of the SDGs where they’re having the greatest impact, and those where they need to step up their efforts. Especially committed to diversity and gender equality, responsible production and consumption, climate action, health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, Patrik Johansson, ESG expert at Saab, talks to Mélanie Bénard Crozat about these multiple challenges.
