  • What We've Learned from COVID
    Mar 16 2022

In our second episode, James and Jag  reflect on what we've learned, through the pandemic, about retirement planning.

First, it might pay to be a bit more conservative with your investments.  We saw a wild swing in March 2020.  And while the market did bounce back quickly, we are now seeing some volatility in the wake of high inflation and global uncertainty with Russia invading Ukraine.  The closer you are to retirement, the more conservative you should be.  You have less time to bounce back from a market correction.

James can look at your investments - whether it's a traditional 60/40 blend or otherwise - and help you make adjustments to increase the likelihood of you having a Safe Retirement.  Nobody wants to run out of money in their golden years!

We also learned about the importance of estate planning - no matter what your age.  Unfortunately we saw the pandemic take many lives, or render people unable to make medical decisions for themselves.  You should always have a plan.

  • Common Retirement Planning Mistakes
    Mar 2 2022

In our first episode, James Akers of Akers Financial sits down with Jon "JAG" Gay to cover some of the most common retirement mistakes he sees with clients and potential clients.

We talk about failing to plan meaning you're "planning to fail" and the cliff of retirement.  Remember the yodeler game on The Price is Right?

What about not having an emergency savings account?  James talks about what happened when his washing machine broke.

Not fully understanding FRA, or full retirement age, with regard to social security is another huge mistake.  There are many individual factors that go in to deciding what age to start collecting social security.  And that's a decision that will impact your income for the rest of your life.    Be sure to check your social security info at the secure government website here: https://www.ssa.gov/

Also, you need to be aware of your tax situation - and how social security and other things can affect it.  Working with a team is critical; tax implications can have a huge effect on your bottom line.
