The fossil record is considered to be the primary foundational evidence that validates evolution. Geologists have thought it seems to paint a picture of long ages and slow gradual processes in which species grew to be more complex over time. This perspective was a foundational viewpoint for Darwin when he developed his evolutionary theory. But is this the picture the fossil record really paints of the past?
