This is just an interview, and it’s a real Phil-a-buster! … Like, we’ve got Phil and it’s a real buster! (OK, OK, sorry. But, I am gonna do it again…) So what do we get Phil to talk about? Well, the list includes: bus rapid transit, the Coffman corridor improvements, changes to the 119/Hover intersection, the bike path to Boulder, ThE tRaIn!, Hwy 66 (and induced demand), the transit depot, bike lane continuity (and changes), municipal paths, train quiet zones, Boston Ave, and a ton more.

  • Longmont Locals: Jorge Garza of Longmont Walks
    Oct 19 2024

(First, apologies for the sound issues at the beginning... it gets better, promise.)

You ever ask yourself, “Self, how do I meet people?” If you do, you’re not alone, though you’re kind of a weirdo for saying “Self,” like that. Sorry, we didn’t mean to call you out. It’s OK, weirder things. Anyway, lots of people struggle to find new people to talk to. Social groups tend to gather around a hobby or around a bar. But that doesn’t always work. It’s possible to enjoy something but not enjoy others who enjoy that thing. Is there a thing you like? Do people who like that thing tend to get a bad rap? And, does it get that rap for good reason? Hey, we get it. Brady plays video games. So maybe your hobby doesn’t work - so what then? Well, Jorge says you can always go walking. Yeah, walking, and he makes a convincing argument, because it’s just kinda easier to open up and chat while you’re moving. So, go take a hike.

  • Longmont Locals: Scythe (/saɪð/) Robotics
    Oct 7 2024

You know… like the tool (a scythe is basically a long handle with a curved blade at the end). Scythes were like the very first lawn mower. You swing that curved blade parallel to the earth, and voila, grass haircut. Scythes dominated for THOUSANDS of years. Then I guess at some point this really grim dude stole all of them and we had to start making ACTUAL lawnmowers. I don’t know how it all went down, but I guess Edwin Beard Budding got involved. But time is a flat circle or something, because here we are in the 21st century, and buddy, a Scythe (/saɪð/) is once again the very, uh, cutting edge of mowing technology. We’re talking automated and battery operated. You want to know what the hell I’m talking about? Well are you are in luck! Today Allison McIntosh from Scythe (/saɪð/) Robotics (the company) is here to tell us all about it. And it’s JUST her interview - no buzz!

  • BUZZCUT
    Sep 25 2024

We're attempting a portmanteau, you know, where you smash a couple of words together. What do you think? The idea is that we take “buzz,” like our buzz around town, and then we pair it with “cut,” because we’ve cut out the buzz and it is now a standalone episode for your enjoyment. That’s right, this is just buzz - no interview. And we think BUZZCUT is very appropriate because our special guest this week is Allison McIntosh from Scythe Robotics - a Longmont company that makes some extremely high tech, automated mowers. So yeah, what do you think? Good name? Maybe it sucks and Brady is just distracted because he needs a haircut. Well, write in and let us know - good name, good format?

  • From The Basement
    Sep 5 2024

Today we’re joined by the upstairs neighbors! Or, maybe they’re like the landlords or something? Whatever, I’ll think about it. Anyway, if you don’t know, we record every (other) week (or so) from the basement of Longmont Public Media. And before we skulk off to the cellar (where the podcast studio lives) we often bump into Sergio Angeles and/or Nathan Venzara - who are the Executive Director and Executive Producer respectively. Today, these two join us to talk about LPM and what a unique gem it really is. Oh! Maybe they’re the Eloi and we’re the Morlocks? Is that too forced… or just too esoteric?
