The book follows the story of Dana, an African American woman from the 1970s who finds herself transported back in time to a pre-Civil War plantation.  We discuss the themes of power, oppression, and community, and how they are explored in the novel. Join us as we take a deep dive into this powerful and thought-provoking work by one of science fiction's greatest writers, Octavia Butler.

    -No. and E. agree that all of the characters are believable, authentic, and make you want to sink into all of the passion and love in the story.

    -Please forgive No. and E. for saying Genevieve correctly.

Well, it has happened to us before but we decided to be brave and swap favorite books with each other. Listen in as we give our honest opinion on Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince and Beverly Jenkins’ Topaz. Spoiler Alert—we loved them!

    -No was completely hooked to on The Cruel Prince from the first page

    -No was caught up in the drama, plotting, and revenge focuses in  The Cruel Prince

    -E enjoyed all of the hilarious, spicy, and heartfelt moments in Topaz

    -No. let’s her 90’s girl out and attempts to sing Whatta Man by Salt ‘N’ Pepa ft. En Vogue

    -Not to be out done E. joins No. in signing I won’t say ( I’m in love) from the movie Hercules

    -No kicks off the listing of books by sharing her love of Beverly Jenkins books that should be made into movies. Books mentioned  include: Indigo, Captured, Through the Storm, and Topaz.

    -E. loves a good revenge story so was in love with The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

    -No  enjoys  fantasy so would love to see the popular  YA novel, An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir on the big screen

    -E.  somehow was able to receive permission to read at 12 years old the House of Night series by PC Cast and  Kristin Cast.

    -Reading Forbidden by Beverly Jenkins sparked a renewed interest in reading for No.
