  • Sheppton Mine Disaster
    Feb 5 2025

Episode 16: Today Slice of the Paranormal visits Knoebels Grove Amusement Parks…. Anthracite Heritage Museum in Elysburg, Pennsylvania. We are going to see the harness that saved the lives of two men…Henry Throne and David Fellin in 1963. The harness is interesting, but the tale these two men told of what they saw in the mine defies explanation. They saw ghost miners, doors opening to staircases, and even a recently deceased pope. Attempts to contact the third miner, Louis Bova, were unsuccessful. In 1971, The Buoys recorded a hit single "Timothy", about three miners trapped underground due to a cave-in, with only two of them surviving and a strong implication they survived by cannibalizing the third. This led many to assume the song was inspired by the Sheppton disaster, but songwriter Rupert Holmes insisted he had never heard of the incident and would not have written the song if he had. The book “Sheppton: The Myth, Miracle & Music” by Maxim Furek explored themes of the miraculous and supernatural at the Sheppton disaster site.
