    Welcome to the latest episode of the Smooth Honey Bear Blues. The week is a retrospective of James Henry Cotton, singer, songwriter, and harmonica player. James was born July i, 1935 and dies March 16, 2017 in Austin, Texas. During his career he worked with numerous prominent artists including: Gregg Allman, Elvin Bishop, Joe Bonamassa, Grateful Dead, Howlin' Wolf, Janis Joplin, Taj Mahal, Big Mama Thornton and Jimmy Vaughn to name just a few. He was recruited and played with Muddy Waters for several years. Tonight's tracks are from two of his many recordings: James Cotton "Living the Blues" and Dealing with the Devil.

He started recording in 1953 and had a number of hits in the '50s and '60s. Some of these are featured in the episode including; Honest I Do, Big Boss Man, and Bright Lights, Big City. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. The music of Austin Texas' own , The Fabulous Thunderbirds comprises the second have of the episode with their album "Tuff Enuff". Also, featured on this episode is the collaborative album "Family Style" which features songs performed by Jimmy and his brother Stevie released in 1990.
