  • Episode 195: The Innocent (with Nate Lewis)
    May 8 2025
The Innocent is a nonprofit organization made up of active or retired law enforcement. Their mission is to train law enforcement agencies across the country about preventing and investigating child sex crimes.

In this episode, my guest is Nate Lewis, CEO and founder of The Innocent, whose passion and dedication to the mission are inspiring. You’ll hear us talk about what led Nate to launch the organization, the biggest threats facing American children right now, and how the community can take action to bring this essential training to their local law enforcement agency.

This is the inspiring story of The Innocent.

  • Episode 194: Dakota Levi Stevens (Part 2)
    Apr 30 2025
In the last episode, I told you the story of ten-year-old Dakota Levi Stevens, a smart, creative, charming kid who was dealt a bad hand in life and died at the hands of a foster mother and longtime family friend. Jennifer Wilson is now serving a regrettably short sentence in the Indiana prison system for crushing 91-pound Levi to death with her 341-pound body weight.

In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with three of the people who loved Levi the most: Grandma Melissa Mahler; Aunt Ana Parrish; and Uncle Alex Parrish. Levi’s maternal family members told me about their family's constant attempts to rescue Levi from the foster care system; their heartache at Levi’s bright light being snuffed out by someone they thought they could trust; and their efforts to make changes to help other kids like Levi.

This is part two of the heart-wrenching story of Dakota Levi Stevens.

On April 25, 2024, 10-year-old Dakota Levi Stevens was rushed to the hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana, unresponsive. He was placed on life support, but his brain had been deprived of oxygen for too long, and after two days, Levi died. His foster mother, Jennifer Lee Wilson, admitted to police that in an attempt to control his behavior, she had laid her 341-pound body on top of the 91-pound boy. Surveillance camera footage proved that Levi lay motionless under Jennifer for over eight minutes before she moved, asking if he was faking.

This is the story of a joyful, creative, lively little boy who loved Pokemon, Minecraft, bugs, and his little sister. It’s also the story of a broken-hearted family who wanted only to protect Levi but weren’t given the chance by a state system that has failed far too many children.

This is part one of the heart-wrenching story of Dakota Levi Stevens.

First time listener and I must say this episode was the most deplorable horrible sadden case of child abuse I have ever heard of. this little boy AJ will forever have my heart and I pray his mother suffers everyday of her life. I don't ever recall getting very emotional while listening to podcasts but this one did it today as AJ's lawyer was making his closing statements and referring to being hit in the head and adding the slaps with it just broke me down. I love children all of children and I feel that anyone that abuses children should walk the flames of hell. thank you for the great listening will continue to listen you have earned another true and faithful.

Your passion is understandable. really. But I don't expect the host to get emotionally involved in the story. it somehow takes away from the experience. therefore, I won't be listening to STLC going forward.

it's not about you.

Tough subject, she does amazing bringing these silenced voices back. They need to be heard. Need breaks sometimes so it doesn't trigger my PTSD.

Great

Each episode is heartbreaking, but some are hard to get through hearing what people can do to poor innocent babies/children!
Lynn does an amazing job doing so much research to have all the information for each case. I enjoy that she comes back and does updates when things happen in the cases.

Amazing Podcast!!!

The composition of the stories is amazing. I love how much research goes into each case. And your delivery is fantastic! I’ve been binging for a few weeks now. I can’t get enough! Thank you for giving a voice to the innocent ❤️

My favorite podcast. Every story is complete, in that, Laine includes every detail, to include, those who are left to mourn the loss of the child they loved, very thorough descriptions of the abusers past and present, other agencies that failed to help, the legal/court process, and most importantly all about the victim and who they were. Every story brings out waves of emotions from sadness to anger. Also, brings a smile to my face hearing about the precious child the victim was.

Love all of them. All of the cases are well researched, and Laine doesn't back down from the hard details. I can't image the toll it takes to put just one show together, much less close to 100 and still counting. thank you for doing this podcast, honey; who knows how many children you may have already saved.

By far my favorite podcast

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

The host is very sympathetic towards the victims. She has a way with telling the story that brings you a ton of emotions. Her voice is very relaxing for a podcast too!

I love the focus on the victim

The stories are good...but I don't like the options of the author. Please keep your opinions and suggestions to yourself. Most people who listen to this, are looking for an escape from political opinion. If we wanted CNN ideologies, we wouldn't be listening to podcasts!

STOP with the support of craziness
