About this listen

Please note: contains strong language and adult content.

Welcome to Brisbane, Queensland. It's 1970, and Australia's 'Sunshine State' is a land of mown lawns, beer and pumpkin scones. But underneath this buttoned-down conservativism, the state is awash with dirty money that runs through a network of corrupt cops. And tonight, the man atop this rubbish heap, Senior Sergeant Paul 'Squinter' O'Toole, is driving young crime reporter Lawrence Rich to his death. He should never have got in Squinter's battered old Kingswood. He should never have fallen in love with Frankie. He should never have come to Brisbane in the first place....

A searing crime thriller from BAFTA and Emmy-Award winning producers, Hoodlum Entertainment.

An Audible Original Drama featuring a full cast including Alex Fitzalan (Lawrence), Damien Garvey (Squinter), Jolene Anderson (Frankie), Colin Smith (Hugh/Father) and Andrea Moor (Meredith/Eva).

Written by Phil Enchelmaier and Bronwen Noakes. Produced by Kerrin McNeil. Recorded at UNISON Sound.

This series is interesting as it’s different type of story line. There’s not really much twist as people say.. I mean not really.. There are slow parts and it took me a bit to finish but overall it was interesting.

Different type of story which I enjoyed, Great acting.

(Hinted at *spoiler alert*at end of review) I thoroughly enjoyed the actor’s performances. Well done all. The story is well written and I hope for a second chapter. I haven’t researched if they’ve already confirmed a next chapter or if that was the end. It’s interesting that this story is broadly based on actual events. I think that’s how it was stated at the end credits. If I misheard that I apologize tho. It’s worth a listen if you like a more true life outcome

Great actors and performances

I have to admit my snobbery. It needs to be my disclaimer. Almost all of the podcasts I listen to frustrate me. Extreme tropism, constant use of stereotypes and trampled on plot lines filled with predictable players and I sometimes feel as if I wonder about why my tastes seem so different than the usual 4 star voter - like I said I'm a snob. But I often feel as if I am in a desert of bad storytelling. It's painful. And while I am not going to say this story development wasn't predictable I am going to say I liked the different and realistic ending of this story. This piece has just a touch of irony making it bearable in a sea of saccharin. There's just a bit of sharpness to the mundane moments in life and that is revealed in this story that coalesces into a nice cohesive whole...after all, don't "things" always come to an inevitable conclusion? I suspect folks will disagree with me. That's good. I'm just grateful after the last 5 podcasts I actually liked something/this podcast, enough to leave a comment.

Better than the Usual Fluff

This was a hard one not to finish. It brought me in & kept captivating me at every corner. It was brilliantly written & well unraveled by the actors. I only wish it didn't have an ending. It's a mystery of the mind, heart, & soul.

Didn't see that coming.

The performers did a great job! It was a bit uneventful. I was disappointed by the conclusion and felt like the story was stretched out for no real reason.

I don’t recommend
