This week, Bri, Anna, and Jay dive into the growing discipline crisis in schools and how it’s driving educators to the edge.

The episode kicks off with some nostalgic laughs about screen names and the origin of Bri’s iconic handle, “Honest Teacher Vibes.” From there, the conversation flows into personal quirks, classroom learning styles, and even a Vegemite sidebar that somehow perfectly sets the tone for this unpredictable, bestie-powered show.

But the heart of the episode zeroes in on a serious and frustrating issue - student behavior with no consequences. The hosts share stories from their own classrooms, express concern over inconsistent discipline policies, and vent about how a lack of support can push teachers out of the profession. They touch on PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports), cell phone policies like Yondr pouches, and the disconnect between administrators, parents, and teachers when it comes to accountability.

Throughout, the trio stress the importance of mutual respect—among teachers, administrators, and parents—as the true key to school culture. They highlight how data-driven discipline policies, consistent leadership, and empathetic communication can help schools thrive.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a TOD episode without detours into chaos, creativity, and comedy—whether it's silent lunch punishments, or the infamous “shut up talking to me” student comeback that had everyone howling.

In this hilarious and unfiltered episode of Teachers Off Duty, the LADIES dive deep into how teachers are portrayed on TV—and how far from reality those depictions really are. From Miss Frizzle and Mr. Feeny to Abbott Elementary and Breaking Bad, no character is off limits. We’re talking unrealistic outfits, mysterious teacher lounges, magical classroom behavior, and how no one ever seems to be grading papers or making copies.

Plus, the crew shares their favorite (and least favorite) fictional teachers, reveals what it’s really like behind the scenes in schools across the country, and compares their everyday chaos to what Hollywood thinks education looks like. Spoiler alert: there are no vampires in our classrooms (yet).

Hey all, I hope this finds you well! I appreciated this episode so much. I taught at a year-round, private school throughout the entire pandemic of March 2020 up until this past September. Our school board made the decision to stay open throughout the pandemic and serve children of first responders that were on the medical frontlines everyday. I taught Pre-k and while the kids were happy to be at school, it was a wild and stressful time. Listening to all of your stories was cathartic to hear since I definitely understood pandemic teaching. I hope all is well, stay safe and healthy! - whitney_barnett

It’s so awesome for you guys to speak out and tell all of the insane things that teachers have to deal with. I never would’ve known about these things before if it weren’t for you guys. This is my favorite podcast and I listen to it ALL the TIME! ♥️♥️♥️ love y’all so much

This is the 1st podcast I've ever listened to & I am NOT disappointed! I found Bree through Reels on Instagram & discovered she was a part of a podcast with other teachers. Although I am not a teacher,I have spent 20+ years in healthcare & the stories are so relatable. People are leaving healthcare for the same reasons they leave teaching..bad pay & bad treatment. Keep up the good work :)

Love that they all have a little segments and I love how they all flow together so seamlessly. So fun to listen to while I am cleaning and cooking or when I am just trying to have a laugh.

So good !

I wish I would’ve known that admin won’t support me when I have a behavior problem. If I have a student who continues to act up after I’ve tried everything in my classroom, I go to our APs and try to get support. They turn back around and blame me saying that I don’t do enough. All they do is give a “stern talk” to the kids. There are no consequences and that’s so defeating as a teacher :( I love y’all’s energy by the way! :)
