About this listen
Ten years have passed since Nicky Reilly took a homemade bomb into an Exeter restaurant and attempted to kill the people eating and drinking inside.
Reilly was a Muslim convert who had travelled from Plymouth by bus earlier that day with the intention of bringing death and destruction to the busy shopping area.
The extraordinary events were even more shocking because until it happened nobody really imagined that such an event could take place in the relatively quiet cathedral city in the south west of England.
Over the succeeding days, weeks and months a major counter terrorism investigation was launched and further details about Reilly – and his troubled background - emerged.
Now 10 years on, a one-off podcast looks at the events of May 22 2008 and the subsequent aftermath.
It tells the story of how terror was brought to the streets of Exeter featuring interviews with eyewitnesses, police offices, the media and Nicky's mum Kim Reilly.
