  • The 1% Club Podcast - Episode 6 - Lora Fachie, MBE
    Sep 13 2021

In this podcast, 14 x World Champion Cyclist, Neil Fachie MBE and presenter John Mellis ask high achievers about their best habits and behaviours in an effort to build a tool box allowing everyone the chance to prosper at an elite level.

In Episode 6, John is in his element as he and Neil welcome the second Paralympic Gold Medal Winning Cyclist onto the programme - Neil's wife Lora.

She tells her story of being raised in an almost entirely blind household, in a very determined sporting family - a life which led her to follow in Mum's footsteps in Athletics, and then away from it to forge her own path which eventually led to cycling after hearing a story about.....well, we'll let you hear for yourself.

Yes, she talks about meeting and dating Neil, but how it wasn't all plain sailing.

How heartache in London turned to delight in Rio, at the exact same moment her husband was going through the polar opposite situation in his own sporting career, how difficult it is for two incredibly competitive sporting individuals to live in the same household and about her passion for food, nutrition and cooking through her blog Blindingly Good Food.

Oh, and there's a little bit about training for the Tokyo Paralympics as well, because Lora's competing too!

It's The 1% Club meets Mr and Mrs, and it's everything you'd hope for and more.

Enjoy Episode 6 of The 1% Club Podcast as we welcome Lora Fachie.

  • The 1% Club Podcast - Episode 5 - Dr Zareen Ahmed
    Sep 6 2021

In this podcast, 14 x World Champion Cyclist, Neil Fachie MBE and presenter John Mellis ask high achievers about their best habits and behaviours in an effort to build a tool box allowing everyone the chance to prosper at an elite level.

In Episode 5, someone Neil was aware of and acquainted with, but because of the pandemic, has only met so far, virtually. And even allowing for those restrictions, Neil described Dr Zareen Roohi Ahmed as 'remarkable'.

Zareen is a social entrepreneur, a charity chief, a speaker, lecturer, coach, mentor and author.

And, she makes Britain's Best Biryani!

But those are all things she does, not why she does them - and that, in this instance, is the most important element.

In a life which swivelled on a pivotal moment witnessing an unfathomable pain, Zareen's story is, at times, harrowing and tragic, but ultimately, utterly uplifting and inspirational.

In this episode, she shares all of it.

  • The 1% Club Podcast - Episode 4 - Daniel Priestley
    Aug 30 2021

In this podcast, 14 x World Champion Cyclist, Neil Fachie MBE and presenter John Mellis ask high achievers about their best habits and behaviours in an effort to build a tool box allowing everyone the chance to prosper at an elite level.

In Episode 4, following on from a guest who's one of John's mates - radio and TV presenter, panto star and actor, Grant Stott - someone from Neil's friend list - Daniel Priestley

Dan is an entrepreneur, best-selling author and international speaker. He's also co founder of Dent, which runs a 9-month growth accelerator programme for small enterprises, working with over 500+ entrepreneurs each year to develop their businesses. Dent has offices in the UK, USA, Singapore and Australia.

In this episode, Dan tells us about his earliest entrepreneurial adventures, through University, when he dropped out after realising he was more successful in business than anybody teaching him, and how he relocated to the UK 15 years ago from his native Australia and had to start all over again from scratch.

Crucially, he explains the moment in life which changed his view of the world so completely and fundamentally, it's totally altered his approach to work ever since.

  • The 1% Club Podcast - Episode 3 - Grant Stott
    Aug 23 2021

    Approaching Excellence, Every Conversation.

Is there such a thing as destiny?

    Is your future pre-ordained?

Is it possible to be born a high-achiever, guaranteed to succeed?

In this podcast, 14 x World Champion Cyclist, Neil Fachie MBE and presenter John Mellis ask high achievers exactly that and about their best habits and behaviours in an effort to build a tool box allowing everyone the chance to prosper at an elite level.

In Episode 3, as Neil makes final preparations to represent Great Britain once more, going for cycling gold at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, here on the podcast (recorded earlier in the Summer), we're meeting out third guest - and after one of the world's foremost multi instrumentalists, we move onto someone who spends a large chunk of his life also playing music, but not his own, (and usually it's on vinyl).

Grant Stott is a radio and television presenter, Panto turn and actor, which was actually his big dream all along.

He talks about the importance of knock-backs and refusing to accept them, working for the police before chasing his dream, and how, despite any real kind of planning, one job led to the next until finally he reached the acting world he'd wanted to be a part of all along.

Grant tells us about the people who've been the greatest influences upon him throughout his career, including his long time pal, Andy Gray, before his passing earlier this year. And we talk about how, in the case of the Edinburgh Panto....the show must go on.

In Episode 2, as Neil makes final preparations to represent Great Britain once more, going for cycling gold at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, here on the podcast (recorded earlier in the Summer), we're meeting out first guest proper, Dame Evelyn Glennie.

She discusses losing her hearing at a young age and how she subsequently learned to interpret sound differently, allowing her to excel musically in a mainstream education in the North East of Scotland before embarking on a journey which saw her become the world's first solo percussionist, a role she created in her mind and then inhabited, in a game-changing moment in musical history.

Evelyn talks candidly about whether she pays heed to critics, explains her drive and purpose, as well as what's in her toolbox for success.
