    A recording of the live book club event hosted by Chris Winson with Dr Lucy Maddox, author of "A Year to Change Your Mind". 

    Lucy is a clinical psychologist, author and researcher at the University of Bath. Lucy has worked in the NHS and within the third sector, with a lot of experience of working with and supporting young people with their mental health. She has a love of learning and is currently undertaking a second PhD, coupled with the desire to share much of what she learns. In addition to her recent book, Lucy has also published two other books, "Blueprint" and "What is mental health?" and often contributes to media outlets, including BBC Science and The Guardian.



    For several years Lucy was a special advisor to the BABCP and proceeded the podcast series looking at many therapeutic approaches "Let's Talk About CBT". Lucy can be contacted at lucy@lucymaddox.co.uk

  • The #365DaysOfCompassion August Book Club - James Kirby

    A recording of the live book club event hosted by Chris Winson with Dr James Kirby, author of "Choose Compassion".

    James is a clinical psychologist, researcher and senior lecturer at the University of Queensland, as well as the co-director of the Compassionate Mind Research Group. He co-edited with Professor Paul Gilbert the book "Making an impact on mental health: the applications of psychological research" and regularly presents and talks about research on compassion at conferences and in the media.


    James was the cohost of the Alphabet of the Heart podcast with Dr James Doty and is the cohost of the Compassion Initiative podcast with Dr Stan Steindl. "Choose Compassion" is James' first book and provides an overview of research relating to how compassion can help us both individually and collectively with the big challenges facing the world.

    A recording of the live book club event hosted by Chris Winson with Ann Parkinson, author of "Dancing Through Life: A Guide to Living Well". Ann is an experienced physiotherapist with a focus on supporting people with chronic pain and health conditions such as ME, CFS, and long covid, blending her formal training, science based approaches and personal experience.


    She uses a holistic blend of techniques including yoga, coaching and elements of compassionate mind training as part of the support to both herself and those she works with. Ann's book, published in 2020, is a helpful and accessible self-help book based on her work and experience.
