Ed Rush is a decorated Marine Corps F/A-18 pilot. At the height of his career, he was the #1 instructor in the Marine Corps for 1-against-1 dogfighting and was instrumental in the training development for the new F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. Ed has flown close to 2,000 tactical aircraft hours, with over 50 missions in combat for which he was awarded an Air Medal.

He has flown everything from small trainers to Mach 2 fighters including T-34, T-2, A-4, H-1, F/A-18, F-5, and MiG-21. He also flew and beat a Russian-made MiG-29 in a training mission. The lessons Ed learned in the cockpit are instrumental and provide the content basis for much of his consulting and speaking.

Moses is caught in the tension between God’s holiness and the nation’s need for mercy. On the one hand, the people deserve to be consumed, and God, in his holiness, cannot simply be among them, in their sin. Given God’s holiness and the people’s sin, how can Moses confidently go from Sinai to the promised land? Moses wants to know more about this God.  Who is he?  What kind of God is he? Will he forgive?

Moses could not lead Israel into the land of promise and rest. Joshua — who was not a young man at this time, found that now it was his time to lead, but only after God had prepared him. Joshua was prepared by faithful service in small things, in being Moses’ assistant. Joshua is told…Be Strong and Courageous. But what does this mean? 

It genuinely feels like one of those “Christianese” statements that church people love to say without fully understanding what it means. It seems strange to be telling Joshua, who was one of the two spies, among the group of twelve, to see the promised land with the enemy as large as giants, yet report to Moses that they could take the land. You’re telling Joshua, who hasn’t demonstrated any lack of strength or courage in any aspect of his life, to be strong and courageous. So…what is the Lord saying?

It’s interesting that every time you and I intentionally set aside time to honor the Lord, whether in worship, prayer, or studying His Word…the enemy becomes more aggressive than ever to see that we are overworked through spiritual warfare than when we originally determined to honor the Lord. The enemy has been and will continue to use the same old tactics to keep you and me from honoring the Lord. Nothing has changed!

For some, you are willing to follow the Lord, but you have continued to embrace an Egyptian mentality. You are willing to follow the cloud by day and fire by night. But the minute you see war, any kind of spiritual warfare…you want to go back to the bondage that you believe is more comfortable than the battle that may ensue. The Lord is saying to you today…”GO FORWARD!”
