  • Day 151: The Seven Sacraments (2025)
    May 31 2025
The Catechism introduces the seven sacraments that Christ offers the Church: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. The Catechism highlights the fact that the sacraments are “by the Church” because the Church is “Christ’s action at work”, and they are “for the Church” because they “manifest and communicate to men…the mystery of communion with the God who is love.” Fr. Mike focuses on the fact that while ministerial priests administer many of the sacraments, their priesthood is at the service of the baptismal priesthood, into which all of the baptized are ordained. Today’s readings are from Catechism paragraphs 1113-1121. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. • Day 150: The Epiclesis (2025)
    May 30 2025
At the heart of the Liturgy of the Eucharist is the epiclesis, when the priest begs the Holy Spirit to come and transform the bread and wine into the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ. The Catechism explains this mysterious reality, and Fr. Mike reiterates that the Mass is not a repetition of Christ’s once-and-for-all sacrifice, but a re-presentation and celebration of his eternal sacrifice on the Cross. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 1104-1112. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. • Day 149: The Holy Spirit Recalls Christ’s Mystery (2025)
    May 29 2025
Fr. Mike examines how the Holy Spirit recalls the mystery of Christ. We explore how the Holy Spirit both inspires the Word of God and recalls the Word of God. Fr. Mike emphasizes that it is the Holy Spirit that helps us hear and understand God’s Word. It is the Holy Spirit that helps elicit a response of consent and commitment within us. Today’s readings are Catechism paragraphs 1099-1103. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. A invaluable learning opportunity to grow in faith and understanding of the Catholic Church. Including the history of the church and church tradition.

A priceless gift

I was baptized Anglican, a cross between Catholic and Protestant. I have leaned more Protestant and gather my learning from all the true trinitarian denominations. I am amazed at this Catechism and have gotten the book too. Every Christian can gain so much understanding from this podcast and the Catechism. And for all the Catholics I have run across who say they are not really being "fed" by the church... we'll dig into the Catechism as an adult and see how much you gain from it!

Every Christian needs this

I have been waiting for this to come out ever since I first heard it might be done. The enthusiasm of Fr. Mike Schmitz is perfect to accompany what might otherwise drift into dry pedagogy at times. I find joy in learning about the Catholic faith in many ways by sharing the journey with Fr. Mike. I also trust him to be a conscientious guide who will ensure I consider aspects of the faith that, left to my own reading, I would likely ignore or not realize.

I can't wait to share this journey with other listeners and my mother and I plan to listen each day and reflect on what we learn.

What a great way to start 2023!

I'm learning so much about the Church that I didn't learn in my years of Catholic school. I'm so glad I decided to listen to my twin sister and start this journey. It is increasing my faith and explaining so much about the Church that I have always loved. I restarted the Bible in a Year as well which has made it even better.

The only drawback is the rapid speech of Fr. Mike so I have to stop and relisten as I take notes. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Today is day 88 and my audible app only goes to day 87 so the app isn't getting the updates. I'm having to go to Youtube to get today's excerpt. It happened last week, as well.

Thank you Fr. Mike and Ascension Press for this amazing resource. I'm praying for you as you are praying for me!
