The Christmas Chronicles

By: BYUradio
  • Summary

  • BYUradio presents The Christmas Chronicles, a Christmas story for radio that captures the magic and mystery of everyone’s favorite Yuletide character—Santa Claus. Commissioned by BYU Broadcasting, author Tim Slover’s work finally reveals “a true and complete history of Santa.” The series originated in accounts of the astonishing life and activities of Santa, recalled and told by the author, Tim Slover, to his children over the years. It all started with a strictly scientific answer to a child’s classic question: “How does Santa deliver all those toys all over the world in just one night?” That’s the query that unlocked the grand adventure to keep the magic in and the cynicism of the world at bay. Written by: Tim Slover Narrated by: Tim Slover and Richard Johnstone Music by: Robert Rowberry Technical Producer: Jacqueline Tateishi Producer: Judith Olauson Tourney Production Assistance: Juan Mijares Executive Producer: Walter B. Delightful!

Terrific tales of the true life of Claus and all the wonders of giving presents, red suits, flying reindeer and the spirit of Christmas. Great short listens to get you into the spirit while you put up the tree, bake cookies or just drive in the car.

The Santa Chronicles

8 part radio play (from BYU radio) that attempts to account for all of the elements of the secular myth of Santa Claus (red suit, reindeer, elves, etc.) while remaining true to his roots as a Christian saint.

The saint’s story is relocated to 14th century Germany. After his village is decimated by plague, a young carpenter named Klaus begins to build furniture for the survivors for free, to replace belongings burnt during the epidemic. He also begins to carve wooden toys for the surviving children.

Eventually, he starts an annual tradition of leaving the toys anonymously on the children’s doorsteps. This generosity wins him the love of Anna, a beautiful young woman who drives a reindeer-pulled sleigh. It also makes him an enemy, a fellow carpenter who envies his skill and resents his giving away his work for free.

It’s a fun and uplifting story. The narration is enhanced by incidental music and sound effects.
