• Cosmic Dispatch November 2024: Find What You Love and Let It Kill You
    Oct 27 2024

Charles Bukowski’s oft quoted “Find what you love and let it kill you,” always felt very Scorpionic to me. Especially lately, as I witness so much all-or-nothing behavior in the lives of friends, clients, and multiple groups of people. Whether its through martyrdom, power-hoarding, compulsive behavior, or ecstatic surrender, this Scorpio season is probably the most exacting Scorpio season I’ve lived through.

In this episode I explore how this double-edged sword of a quote can symbolize unmatched creative and destructive power. Other topics in this episode include:

The somatics of the sign of Scorpio
Interacting with the dead (or ghosts of memory and history) through astrology
November forecast featuring the Mars-Pluto opposition
Pluto’s last days in Capricorn, featuring the Pluto return of the USA
A bit about Mercury's retrograde in Sagittarius, Pluto’s entrance into Aquarius, and learning to hold multiple truths at the same time (and also let go of them as they change).

  • October 2024
    Sep 22 2024

Today Cory walks us through the Gates of Hades (aka the autumnal equinox) with an October forecast, and a breakdown of the ultimate Libra solar eclipse and full moon in Aries. This solar eclipse is conjoined with the south node, Mercury, and Lilith. The asteroid Juno hangs out with this eclipse as well. That’s a lot of Libra material begging to be reckoned with. When do things like diplomacy, the rules of engagement, decorum, and codes of conduct do more to maintain inequities than to resolve injustice? How can the individuating powers or Aries create opportunities for authentic connection? The Aries-Libra situation gets flipped on its head this month and we can use the archetypes more effectively by working with them counter-intuitively. The words “relating,” and “relationship” make up about 60% of the words used in this episode. October really churns with these two big lunations whose rulers (Venus and Mars) are in signs of their antithesis AND configured to each other (and Saturn) by a grand water trine.

In the second half of the episode Cory continues the Aries- Libra-self-other-flip-the-script-fest. Some points to ponder:

When is civility barbaric? When is domestication violent? What is the self? Where is it located? Do I need relationships to build a sense of self? How are repulsion and attraction the same thing? How do divisions within myself show up in my external reality?

Films mentioned: I Heart Huckabees and Triangle of Sadness

  • Virgo Season 2024: Dirty Work
    Aug 25 2024

In today’s episode, Cory and shea in the catskills do a deep dive into the sign of Virgo and talk about their latest offering, Getting Through it Together, an astrology and tarot container designed to help everyone work creatively with the intense astrology of the upcoming eclipses and the sociopolitical pressure-cooker we’re in.

*Also, I have some Mercury Rx corrections for the beginning of the show. I was speaking off-the-cuff about some dates w/o notes and am still disoriented after a few weeks of travel:

1.Jupiter-Saturn square and full moon Aquarius took place 8-19 (not 20)

2.The Great Conjunction marks the official shift from a 200-year period during which Jupiter and Saturn made conjunctions primarily in Earth signs into a 200-year period of conjunctions in Air signs (again, not 20)

    Topics include:

Brief review of the astrology of summer and Jupiter’s square to Saturn

Archetypal Virgo in pop-astrology, mythology, and ancient astrology

    Virgo in the tarot

Fixing, mending, repairing, editing, and organizing...getting our hands dirty

Practical applications, usefulness, devotion and service

Virgo’s role in states of chaos. “Find the helpers”

    Critical engagement vs. Bypassing

    Skills, techniques, practice, and discipline

    Sexual sovereignty

    Perfectionism and Martyrdom

    The Virgo-Pisces axis

    Our personal relationships with Virgo

In the second half of the show Cory offers a short forecast for the month of September, and a primer on eclipses and the upcoming lunar eclipse in Pisces.

  • LEO SEASON PART 2: THE CENTER CANNOT HOLD
    Jul 28 2024

LEO SEASON PART 2: THE CENTER CANNOT HOLD

I love love love this conversation about Leo that I had with Joselia Hughes. It might be my favorite conversation that I’ve had about Leo so far, because we talk about what is NOT visible with this sign. Of all the people I work with, people with strong Leo signatures are the ones who consistently report that they don’t resonate with the pop-astrology significations of the sign. Astrology is a complex story-telling apparatus. If we approach it with a prescriptive intention, it loses its potency. When we excavate the archetype of Leo we find things like deep sensitivities to visibility AND invisibility, and preoccupations with mortality (hence the need to create and express). Those of you who study astrology might look to Scorpio or Capricorn for topics of time and death, but Leo might have them beat when it comes to being focused on the sustenance of vitality and the endurance of its own essence.

Jo is a writer, editor, access worker, and artist. We also talk about the transformation of the archetype, where we see it showing up in the world, organizational structures, art-making, writing, disability justice, authoritarian/celebrity culture and more. I think everyone who has prominent Leo-Aquarius signatures will find themselves somewhere in this conversation.

Jo and I both have complex Leo signatures in our charts that are in tension with Aquarian elements, and that perspective is woven throughout the conversation. Have a listen. Tell us what you think.

Joselia Rebekah Hughes is a writer, artist, consultant, and access worker based in The Bronx. She's a Poetry co-editor at Apogee Journal and a Teaching Artist at Lincoln Center. She is currently pursuing a MFA in Writing at Bard. For more information, please visit joselia.info or follow her on Instagram @joselia_pdf.

  • LEO SEASON PART 1: Royal Reversals and A Meaningful Conversation with Possibility
    Jul 20 2024

LEO SEASON PART 1: Royal Reversals and A Meaningful Conversation with Possibility

You are getting your Leo season content in 2 parts this season. In this episode Cory delivers the August 2024 forecast and shares a treatise on Mercury retrograde which is prominent in the astrology of August. Yes, things are busting loose and feel out of control...because they are. Chaos is a natural phase in the process of change. Real change does not arrive in neatly manageable packages that make everyone comfortable. If that happens to occur, chances are that the only thing we’re changing is the packaging. Chaos aids in the pulling up of structures by their roots. There is not a polite way to do this. There is grace, however, in letting go of outworn structures, processes, and perspectives, and allowing for movement. When we don’t allow for movement and being in right relationship with each other and our environment on a regular basis we can experience change as cataclysmic. Life will clear the path for movement in a very forceful way if we can’t do it for ourselves. August’s astrology is definitely in conversation with July’s astrology, asking and answering, “what can be built with new tools and new designs?” and “WHY are we attatched to the things we can’t let go of?”

Cory begins the episode with news about multiple offerings!

  • Cancer Season (embarking on Leo season): From Safe Spaces to Brave Spaces
    Jun 17 2024

Cancer Season (embarking on Leo season): From Safe Spaces to Brave Spaces

Today’s episode begins with an embodied conversation about the sign of Cancer with Marléne Ramirez-Cancio, artistic director of Brooklyn Arts Exchange, tarot practitioner, process doula, and arts educator and activist on many fronts. In the second segment of today’s show, Cory takes us through the major (and explosive) transits of Cancer season, as well as sharing a sneak-peek of the entire month of July. That segment starts around the 1hr/22min mark. There are two extraordinary full moons in Capricorn during Cancer season that pull in Neptune and Pisces so consistently that towards the end of the show Cory keeps referring to that second full moon in Capricorn as the full moon in Pisces. This gaffe is actually quite emblematic of the whole Saturn-Neptune situation! In Cory’s conversation with Marléne, they explore and expand on the more familiar archetypes of Cancer. They also talk about their personal experiences working in the arts as educators, collaborators, and facilitators.

    Other topics include:
    Matriarchal archetypes
What does it mean to incubate
How safety and care enable risk-taking
    What is a “process doula?”
    Inter/multigenerational sources that create identity
    Marginalized identities in art spaces
Restoring, reclaiming, and developing Latinx culture
    Marléne’s tarot deck and practices
Live analysis of Marléne’s Mercury in Cancer placement
    Cultural iconography
    Bodily intuition

In the second part of the show Cory shares the transits of Cancer season. She asks us to think about how, in the name of the illusion of safety and protection, we create false others to protect ourselves from.

Marlène Ramírez-Cancio is a Puerto Rican cultural producer, artist, and educator based in Brooklyn, New York. As Artistic Director of BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange, a multigenerational arts organization nurturing creative expression and artistic process, she creates spaces of inquiry and praxis for artist-led initiatives. Since 2008, she has directed EmergeNYC, an incubator and affinity network for socially engaged artists to develop their creative voice, explore the intersections of art and activism, and connect to a thriving community of BIPOC, migrant, and LGBTQIA+ practitioners.

Taurus Season 2024 featuring The Jupiter-Uranus Conjunction

    Breaking Free and Liberating Power

In this episode of The Cosmic Dispatch Cory Nakasue and Nate Speare cover the major transits of Taurus season. They give special treatment to one of the biggest transits of 2024, the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction. Disruptive change, rebellion, and power to masses are discussed at length, as well as experiential reflections on the sign of Taurus.

In the second part of the show, Nate and Cory discuss Nate’s work with astro-erotics, a course informed by archetypal psychology, astrology, bodywork, psychomagic and theatre/performance art. He has an upcoming workshop! They weave in Taurus themes of sensation, pleasure, and embodied knowledge.

In the third part of the show they are joined by Mandee Sheeler and the three of them discuss their Taurus placements and the experience of having Uranus and Jupiter transit them. As usual, Mandee shares Taurus-themed audience questions which produce some really deep meditations on astro consultations, Chiron, and the ego’s need to attach to “good” or “bad” outcomes.

    Transits covered include:

The sun’s ingress into Taurus 4-19

    Jupiter-Uranus conjunction 4-20

Multiple aspects to Pluto 4-21 through 5-17

    Full moon Scorpio 4-23

    Mercury’s station direct 4-25

Taurus ingresses: Venus 4-29, Mercury 5-15

Mars conjoins Neptune 4-29 and enters Aries 4-30

    New moon Taurus 5-7

**There is also a Jupiter cazimi that takes place on 5-18 as well, that we did not cover. Apologies. There is so much going on in the sky! But May 18th is a day to circle on the calendar. Astro nerds, check it out!
