  • #396: Coming in from Toronto, Canada: The Reed Effect!
    Jun 10 2022

Coming in once again from Toronto, Canada: The Reed Effect bends, beguiles, and rocks with "Trampled Under" - their next full-force single/video from their album 1973.

With Lead Vocalist/Guitarist Kirk Reed continuing to honor the memory of his late brother, Chris Reed (bass/backing vocals), The Reed Effect has carried forward their mission to feed the hungry ears of the music masses worldwide. "Trampled Under" is the foundational track upon which their album 1973 that has been solidly built.

WATCH -- PREVIOUS RELEASES FROM THEIR ALBUM 1973 - "Rise Up" and "Fine Here"

"Trampled Under" is arguably the strongest track from this album. It definitely stands out as it's the darkest and most emotional. All the other tracks are rockers. Also, the song was all developed around Chris's unique bass line. I remember Chris, Bryan Fontez, and I spent the better part of a day just working out the main riff until we were happy with it. We feel it reached its highest potential."' - Kirk Reed

2020 was a hard year for all of us and The Reed Effect has definitely felt that pain. Chris Reed, bassist, vocalist, bandmate, friend, and brother tragically took his own life on October 10th, 2020, just as the new music was about to be released. Being very close, Chris's death hit Kirk hard. But Kirk feels it is important to let the world hear this music - not just as a tribute to Chris and his legacy, but as a celebration of their collaboration and brotherly love.

    Jun 7 2022

Multiple elements converge to strengthen every bond. Four distinct personalities sharpen Any Given Sin’s edge. The Maryland quartet—Victor Ritchie [vocals], Mike Conner [guitar], Rich Stevenson [bass], and Mike Showalter [drums]—infuse metal, hard rock, and alternative into a dark, dynamic, and deep signature style of their own. Amassing nearly 10 million streams and 2 million YouTube views independently and landing multiple number ones on SiriusXM Octane, the group channel this connection on a series of 2021 singles.

“We have various different influences, but we all meet in the middle,” says Conner. “Mike Showalter and I have much heavier backgrounds. Rich comes from an industrial background, and Vic is alternative, blues, and grunge. The band is our meeting at a musical crossroads.”

  • #393: DC Post Pop Punk Band, Dear Spring!
    Jun 6 2022

The wait is over for Moments, the brand new EP from Post pop-punk band Dear Spring. Featuring recent singles “Empty Frames,” “Newspeak,” and “Every Now And Then,Moments has captured the attention of Ones To Watch, Chorus.fm, New Noise Magazine, and more with its “aggressive guitars, emotive vocals, and a rhythm section that hits like a freight train” (Under The Radar). The EP is out now via Open Your Ears Records and can be streamed online at https://orcd.co/momentsds.

Speaking on the EP the band shares, “The ‘Moments’ EP represents an evolution of Dear Spring's sound and thus far, the biggest step forward for the band. Dear Spring’s once disparate influences of up-beat Pop Punk, pensive Emo, and emotional Post-Hardcore have found their center with the Washington D.C. quartet’s latest 6-song offering. Conceived during a time of self-transformation, "Moments" intimately captures a snapshot in the life of the band. Themes of isolation and loss are explored on the EP's opening track "Wooden Fences.” The album’s second track, “Vultures” touches on the band’s grungier influences in the vehicle of a siren’s song. The EP's lead single, “Every Now And Then”, focuses on self-improvement and the longing for human connection in a time of great disconnection. The EP’s second single, "Newspeak", examines self-destructive tendencies and the struggle of expression in an age of extreme polarization. The EP’s closer, “Empty Frames” is an introspective accounting of the damage and ongoing struggles of being neurodivergent. With Man Overboard’s Nik Bruzzese returning to produce and Fairweather’s Ben Green joining to mix the record, ‘Moments’ is poised to be Dear Spring’s most impactful release yet.”

  • #392: Blue Ridge Rock Fest 2022 Rising Artist: Velvet Chains!
    Jun 5 2022

Influenced by the 90's & 00's rock eras, Velvet Chains' sound is red hot and crowd pleasing - drawing their likeness to Alice In Chains, Audioslave, Stone Temple Pilots, and Velvet Revolver: heavy riffs, driving beats, melodic guitars and soaring vocals.

  • #391: Australian Alternative Band, Yours Truly... TRIGGER WARNING!
    Jun 3 2022

Australian alternative bright lights Yours Truly have announced their brand new EP is this what i look like? which will be coming out July 15th, 2022 via UNFD. The band have also released a new song and video “Hallucinate” which features Josh Franceschi of You Me At Six. This will be the first full release from the band since their huge debut Self Care back in 2020, and also features a guest spot from DR€W ¥ORK from Stray From the Path.

Speaking about the new single Mikaila Delgado explains “’Hallucinate’ is an anxiety attack turned into music, detailing how it takes over your body so totally that it feels as if you're under the influence of something. I've struggled badly with anxiety and it's debilitating every day to be at war with your own thoughts. It's one of the darkest songs we've ever written but I found a lot of power in pulling out the chaos of how anxiety feels and sounds to me and putting it in a song.

Watch the video for “Hallucinate” here.

This brilliant new EP marks the start of a new chapter for Yours Truly, inspired by the music they are all collectively listening to now (Bring Me The Horizon, The 1975, Bloc Party, Head Automatica), the seven tracks see the band scatter in every direction possible. There’s the electro-thrash of “Lights On”, the aching alt-rock swagger of recent single “Walk Over My Grave” and the fearless pop stomp of “If You’re Drowning (I’ll Learn How To Hold My Breath)”. Though actually, this new EP was never meant to be a bold step forward for the group, and was originally planned as a three-track companion to their debut album Self-Care, called Self-Sabotage. The EP was meant to tackle something other than the “sunshine and butterflies” of their debut album, dig deeper, be more true and reflective of the band now. “We spent that whole album telling people everything was going to be alright but the world had clearly taken a turn. Over the past few years, self care has been incredibly difficult,” explains Delgado. “We wanted to explore 'that'.”

is this what i look like? stays true to that goal, but once they got into the studio with their “anything goes” attitude, they realized these songs “felt like a different universe entirely.” Rather than running scared or trying to dial it back, the band decided to jump in, accept these new challenges and make themselves at home. It’s a bold move for a band who, in it for the long haul, wanted to just gradually push things forward on every record. However two years without touring and without being able to get in the practice space together has changed that patient mindset. “Now we just want to write the songs we want to write. Let’s not be afraid. Let’s just be the best band we possibly can.”
