  • Summary

  • Harper McKenzie wakes to the worse possible day: her 18-year-old son has vanished from her Manhattan apartment without trace.

Worse, no-one knows what she’s talking about.

No-one thinks she had a son.

    Ever.

Has she lost her grip on reality?

Or has the world shifted in a terrifying and unpredictable way?

The Effect is a taut psychological thriller that challenges everything we thought was real, as Harper’s quest to find her son pushes her to the very edge of reason.

This original podcast is 10 episodes in total, please begin with “Ep 1: Vanished”.

I’ m totally freaking out!!!

OK it was a great story if I asked you wanna call it. but if they are not in the process of producing more of this story, I feel like I wasted all my time listening to it to have no freaking ending. This is the first time I was ever holding my breath to see what came next and it over. I am so mad!!!! like literally mad I rarely get angry It makes me mad that they stopped at 10 episodes. I’m begging for Whoever developed this please finish it.
But it was FANTASTIC!!!!!

That's It??

The performers were very good and the story was engrossing, and I would have given this five stars but... what happened to the ending?? I sure hope there is a Part 2, because there was no closure here, and I am very frustrated!!

Good Sci-fi story but problems w/narration and details

The story behind this 10-episode podcast audio drama (first Season I assume?) is good, well told and interesting. There are overlaps with other similar concepts, but the angle here is unique enough. By issue is more with the narration and some dialogue moments. While the acting was great from all performers, this was obviously a British-produced story based, for no apparent reason, in an American city, narrated by mostly British (?) actors performing various accents not entirely well. The result is tough to listen to. Certain ‘tells’ beyond accent are in the wording of basic things, such as ‘at university’ and the like. This is just bad editing, in my opinion, and distracts from what could be a great podcast.

Interesting short story

3.7/5

For a short story in podcast form it really is well done and well paced. There’s a lot of scenes packed into the short time frame. And you’re never really lost or confused about anything. You can jump right into the story without having too many questions.

The sound affects making it like an audio movie was cool and made you feel like you were there and in it. I think this works well with short stories. A full on novel with sound affects could potentially be a little tiresome.

I have it at a 3 because the ending is only alright and kind of leaves you wishing there was another epi or two to close it all out. Not the ending I wanted but you do subtly, kind of, get the feel for the end halfway through which is well done.

Overall worth the listen.
