  • Summary

  • Welcome to the Holderness Family Podcast! On Facebook and YouTube we are known as The Holderness Family. We make those silly songs and skits with our kids, but on this podcast, it's just us... the real us. The non-Christmas-jammies-us, the why-can't-my-socks-be-on-the-kitchen-counter-us (Penn) the why-do-I-have-to-go-outside-and-talk-to-people-us (Kim). On this podcast, we will share the real-life ups and downs of living together, working together, raising kids together, in what we hope is a funny and entertaining way. We will be taking questions that we are likely unqualified to answer (absolutely unqualified to answer) but we are hoping that the show will make all of your beautiful families realize you're not alone. You're not alone. We are all a hot mess... a HolderMess. The HolderMess: the Holderness Family PodcastThank you for subscribing and listening!Hosted by Kim & Penn HoldernessProduced by Max Trujillo

  • Our Unqualified Advice
    Feb 4 2025

We love to hear from our listeners, so this week we decided to try something new... we give very unqualified advice to all your questions! We give advice about college, making friends, negative comments, and a very controversial question from "Scooter." (Are you team frontsies or backsies?)

Also, we give a life update about a recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina (and a fantasy Kim got to recently live out) as well as the Top 5 worst pieces of advice we've ever gotten. Listen, we only got through about half of our list of questions - should we continue our unqualified advice next week with a Part 2? Let us know!

  • Parenting Isn’t About You with Dr. Hope Seidel
    Jan 28 2025

When we wrote our book Everybody Fights, So Why Not Get Better At It we talked about magic words in a relationship. There are phrases you can say during discussions or arguments that help bring down the temperature or help each other open up - so couldn't there be the same for our kids?

This week, we bring back one of our all-time favorite guests, Dr. Hope Seidel and get her advice about better communication. But we quickly learn (as we always do) that we need to reframe our thinking when it comes to our kids. Is wanting them to open up something that will help them, or are we making it about us? You can learn more about Dr. Hope Seidel and her parent coaching practice here: https://parentwithhope.com/. Stick around for the end as PC joins us for the Top 5 this week!

  • Curiosity Helps Couples with Casey & Meygan Caston
    Jan 21 2025

We’ve done some episodes before about questions for your spouse (especially when we were all quarantining in the pandemic and looking for stuff to do) but this episode goes deeper. In this podcast, we talk to Casey and Meygan Caston, authors of 365 Connecting Questions for Couples. It’s an entire year of open-ended questions to use (so if you’re trying to grow closer in your relationship, it’s a great resolution for the new year.) After a rocky start to their own marriage, the Castons used practical tools to heal their relationship and now share them through courses, coaching, and their book.

Stay tuned, after the interview, we ask each other some of the questions in the book!

I just love this family!

It's been a rough year, but I gotta say, stumbling upon the Holderness Family has been one of my favorite parts. I first saw their hilarious song parodies on Facebook a couple of months ago. I was very excited to see they were writing a book, which is how I found out about the podcast! I laugh, and sometimes cry, but I always learn a little something, and get to see things from a new angle. As a newlywed, I strive to have a relationship like Kim and Penn have as the years go by. I love that they share the tools that help them have such an incredible understanding of each other! Thank you so much for being you, and sharing so much of yourselves!

I love listening to this podcast. So relatable!

This podcast is so relatable and fun to listen to. There are moments of hilarity but there are also moments of deep emotion. Thought-provoking and fun, great for listening on my walks, while I'm cooking, in the car, and even with my kids (sometimes). Family and relationship thoughts, experiences, and advice.

Pausing work to listen to y'all

I'm not one of those people who can do my work AND listen to a podcast at the same time, which is a real shame because I really enjoy podcasts ... so ever since I started listening to your podcast, my work has begun to suffer. That should be a star or two off but my boss isn't the one writing this review, so ..........

In the latest episode (re: hobbies), I have to say that you are the only other person I have heard who discusses a strong dislike for the word "should". I went through a phase (may still be going through it) where I would respond to all shoulds with an accusation toward the speaker of being a "should-pusher". It doesn't endear me to people, but just know that I get it and I'm glad that you spoke about it because now I don't feel so weird. Right?

So, yea, keep getting in between me and my work - I enjoy it, even if my boss may not.

Loving the positivity and wellness

I really enjoyed your videos and now your podcast. We have learned so much about the experience of living with ADHD from Penn. My son is ADHD and has been able to relate to Penn. Having a family of ADHD (myself, son, and husband) we feel for Kim because it's hard sometimes, but she has such a great approach to understanding it.

Awesome

First off let me say I love you guys. Second I can not belive I am the first review on here. That can only be because everyone else has already started listening to you on other platforms, because you guys are great I actually started watching dude dad and came across The target husband's video and I discovered your family's videos and I was hooked from there. I have watched all your videos, "read" your book. Wich I am great full for the extra commentary on the audiobook and now for the past couple of days I have been listening to your podcast im up to the end of 2018. I listen to you ten hours a day while I'm at work. My wife and I both have a mixture of both your personalities and you have helped me understand not only my wife but myself. With your inspiration I have started down my own self help and personal growth journey. Keep it up and I can not wait to catch up on your podcast Thank you for everything you guys do. YOUR AMAZING

By far, the best episode!

Okay, I love Penn & Kim, but this speaker was just next level with the knowledge. I think the only thing I didn't like about it is that he stole the show, but I will definitely be listening to this one multiple times. Great job! So glad I could find him through you! :)
