  • Keli Spanier of Colette Paperie talks quitting her FT job, risk taking, and humor
    Sep 6 2022

Welcome to the Makers Gonna Make Show where Julie Bee interviews makers about their brand's story and the behind-the-scenes of operating their business.

Like many other successful makers, post-pandemic, Keli started what’s now Colette Paperie as a side hustle to her corporate job. She was working at a mass-merchant with her design degree. When her mother turned ill, she was able to leave her job to spend more time with her. During her mom’s time in the hospital, she received cards that were sad, and they were at a time when they really wanted to laugh.

That’s when Keli had her, “ah-ha” moment and a light bulb went off in her head and she was off to creating humorous greeting cards.

  • John Zeno Louizes of Zeno’s Worlds Most Famous Taffy talks being a multi-generational entrepreneur, surviving failures, and legacy planning
    Aug 30 2022

Welcome to the Makers Gonna Make Show where Julie Bee interviews makers about their brand's story and the behind-the-scenes of operating their business.

John Zeno and his team pride themselves on being the other family business to come out of Daytona Beach (the other one is NASCAR)! He is a third-generation candy maker but considers himself more a preserver of his family’s legacy. John’s father took over the family business in 1963 from his uncle and John took the reins, forty years later in 2003.

The family at Zeno’s Boardwalk Sweet Shop doesn’t just make candy and ice cream, they make memories with their products. With four locations in Florida, generations of parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents have been visiting and creating stories.

In this week’s episode, John talks with Julie about the struggles of not only being a small business owner, but also a multi-generational entrepreneur. He shares his family’s original story and how they’ve maintained and grown the family brand since 1948.
