Episode 52 – Ep 52 - A Slice of Humanity: Mike Ilitch's Legacy vs. Starbucks Policy

Welcome to The Mark Peterson Show, where we explore the stories shaping our society and the values they reflect. In our last episode, we tackled Starbucks’s controversial decision to reverse its open-door policy. Now, customers must make a purchase to sit or use the facilities—a move that sparked a heated debate among listeners, with many defending the company’s position.

Today, we’re shifting gears to highlight a profoundly different story. At a Little Caesars in North Dakota, a compassionate manager offered free pizza and water to a homeless man caught eating from the store’s dumpster. But was this a random act of kindness or a reflection of the company’s deeply rooted culture of care? After all, Little Caesars' late founder, Mike Ilitch, quietly paid Rosa Parks’s rent for nearly a decade—a testament to his extraordinary humanity and generosity.

This episode explores the stark contrast between these two corporate narratives, asking a critical question: Can companies show compassion and still remain profitable? Somewhere along the way, it seems we’ve lost sight of this essential balance. Stay tuned for a thought-provoking discussion that challenges how we view corporate responsibility, kindness, and profit."

    Episode 51 – Fortress Starbucks?

This episode delves into Starbucks's new policy that reverses its open-door policy to anyone and requires you to buy someone if you want to sit down or use the bathroom. Starbucks's Chairman and CEO Brian Niccol argues that paying customers no longer feel comfortable at its stores because of the growing number of homeless people who frequent and languish at their stores. Unfortunately, Starbucks's policy change reflects a growing sentiment in America, i.e., you are not worth anything if you don't have money.

Homelessness is a problem because we keep ignoring it and its root causes. The Starbucks brand was synonymous with "community." However, after January 20, 2025 (the day we celebrate Dr. King Day), Starbucks will become a fortress with a King and feudal servants. Did Starbucks select January 20, 2025 (Dr. King Day) for a purposeful policy change?

Episode 50 – Are America's Black Leaders Chosen By The CIA?

This episode delves into a thought-provoking inquiry: "Could the CIA choose America's Black Leaders?" While it may initially seem far-fetched, historical precedents such as the clandestine activities of notable figures like Harry Houdini, Cary Grant, and Julia Child, who all served as spies, suggest that the idea isn't entirely without merit. This discussion aims to explore the intricate web of influence and intelligence, shedding light on a subject that, while controversial, warrants a nuanced examination.

Want to know who these leaders are? Listen to this episode.
