  • Writing and Bleeding
    Oct 11 2021

Hemingway said writing is a lonely business. Markus McDowell discusses the truth of this statement, as well as the dichotomy that a fiction writer must know know a lot about people in order to write genuinely about the human condition. McDowell describes his approach of balancing the loneliness of writing with the need to be around people and learn about them.

  • Introduction
    Aug 25 2021

Welcome to my podcast. I’m Dr. Markus McDowell, and I am an author, writer, editor, and ghost writer. I have a serious case of wanderlust: I live on a yacht half my time, and the other half I travel to resorts, hotels, and the houses of friends. I’m also sadly overeducated, because I love learning: I have three masters degrees, a PhD, and law degree.

I’ve been writing since I was a little kid, when I asked for a typewriter for Christmas. I’ve always been a creative: as a child, I wrote stories, plays, taught myself the piano and guitar, tried my hand at pencil drawing, and produced stage plays. I’ve been a professional musician, university professor at four different colleges, and a freelance editor for a variety of publishers. I’ve lived in the USA in Europe, and have traveled all over the world, both because I like it and for professional purposes. I lived in Germany for a year, but my heart belongs to Scotland.

My favorite writer is Hemingway, with whom I share a birthday. I also love the writings of James Joyce, George Orwell, and Robert Heinlein,

This podcast serves as an addition to my website pages and blog posts. Here I’ll give you updates on my writings, my travels, some behind-the-scenes discussions, I’ll read some excerpts from some of my books and upcoming works, and will interview some other authors and kreatives and readers. I’ll also post chapter by chapter audiobooks sometimes, which will require a low-cost Patreon subscription. But most of the podcasts will be free, although if you wish to be supportive of my work, you can always donate through Acast.com.

As a writer, I love hearing from my readers. Feel free to get in touch with me or leave comments here or on my website. Thanks for listening.
