• Episode 373 - Embracing a Gospel Vision in Racial Healing and Justice with Dr. Sarita Lyons
    Apr 16 2025

How do we, no matter what our cultural lens may be, embrace a gospel vision in conversations around racial healing and justice? How do we root our understanding of our own experiences in the truth of Christ?
Author, speaker, Bible teacher and counselor Dr. Sarita Lyons has been seeking the answer to these questions as she walks besides those in her church and local community and as she helps the broader Church have conversations around race, identity, and how we can heal individually and collectively. In her new book, Church Girl: A Gospel Vision to Encourage and Challenge Black Christian Women, she explores what it looks like for Black Women to find their identity in Christ, heal from the hurt of racism and other pain, and how to flourish in faith with integrity and conviction. And yet, her message is for all--that when we begin to allow believers in Christ to share their hurt, their pain, their struggles, and their challenges, we can learn ways to love one another better.
In this thought-provoking episode, Davey and Dr. Lyons talk about how the power of the Gospel and our Christianity is meant to inform all areas of our lives, what we can do when we recognize feelings of prejudice or racism in ourselves, and why proximity to others who don't look like us is so important as we heal the racial divide in our churches and communities.
If you've ever wondered where the Gospel intersects in the conversation about racial healing and justice or if you've found yourself wrestling with feelings of prejudice or racism towards others, this episode will encourage you to see these topics through Christ and be a part of the healing and hope that we need more than ever in this generation.

  • Episode 372 - Walking with the One Who Is Not Worried about a Thing with Megan Fate Marshman
    Apr 9 2025

Theologian Dallas Willard was once asked how he would describe Jesus in just 1 word. He replied with the word: relaxed. How can we learn to walk and live like Jesus in a world that wants us to go as fast as we can? What does it look like to deeply trust and surrender when we are walking through pain?
For author and pastor Megan Fate Marshman, those were hard questions to answer after losing her husband, Randy, suddenly to a heart attack. Learning to relax into Christ through the grief and loss was a challenge, but in it she learned to move at a Kingdom pace. She wrote her latest book, **Relaxed: Walking with the One Who Is Not Worried about a Thing**,as a way to help readers let go of spiritual performance and find freedom to walk towards God at a gentle pace.
In this episode, Aubrey and Megan discuss how to even begin to relax in the presence of Jesus in the midst of our suffering, what it looks like to walk with kids through their grief, and what leadership looks like when we are hurting.
If you find yourself caught in the wheel of doing instead of being with Jesus, this conversation will welcome you into the relaxing surrender of God's presence and the freedom to release all your cares to Him.

  • Episode 371 - Helping Little Ones through Grief and Loss with Annie F. Downs and Tatum Green
    Apr 2 2025

How do we begin to help young children understand loss? What can we do to help little ones grieve while we are walking through it alongside them?
For author, speaker, and podcaster Annie F. Downs, these questions became real when her infant nephew, TJ, passed away from a severe medical condition less than two months after he was born. Wanting to help her sister, Tatum Green, and her young son, Sam, process through this loss, Annie did what she was uniquely gifted to do. She wrote Sam a book to help him as he tried to grasp the loss of his little brother. Once it was written, Annie and Tatum knew that this book needed to be offered to other families beyond theirs who were trying to figure out through how to walk young kids through unimaginable losses and so together, they created the final version,Where did TJ Go? A Book for Kids on Grief and Loss. In it, they help children ask the hard questions that can come when they lose someone they love and find hope through the Gospel.
In this honest conversation, Davey sits with Annie and Tatum to talk about how a loss impacts a whole family, the best ways we can show up for those we love in their grief, and what we learn about the mystery of God through the rawness of our struggles and questions.
If you or someone you love is trying to navigate how to guide a young child through loss, this episode will encourage you that while it can be hard and difficult, simply giving kids the space to ask tough questions and talk about what they are feeling is the first step in walking them through the pain of grief and finding hope along the way.

  • Episode 369 - Healing Shame after Betrayal with Mark and Jill Savage
    Mar 19 2025

How do we heal a marriage that has been broken by betrayal? Is it even possible to move past the shame and condemnation that can come after choices that harm our closest relationship?
There was a time when author and podcaster Jill Savage could not see a road to redemption after her husband, Mark, then a pastor, had an affair and was ready to end their marriage. Through what can only be described as the work of God in Mark's heart, their marriage was healed and they stayed together after betrayal. But, the road to that place was not easy. It was full of heartache and shame that threatened to end their relationship. Mark says it was only when he was able to fully surrender to the Lord that true healing came. Now, the couple coaches others who are walking through a similar pain story and have written several books and resources to help couples whose marriages are at a breaking point.
In this episode, Davey talks with Mark and Jill about how to love a spouse when it feels impossible, the incredible power of surrender, and the difference between condemnation vs. conviction.
Whether your marriage is on the brink of divorce or you are working through shame over a past sin, this conversation will help you find a way through the emotions that can keep us stuck, hurting our most precious relationships, and into hope and healing.

  • Episode 367 - Experiencing Jesus in Pain and Suffering with John Eldredge
    Mar 5 2025

What happens to our relationship with God in the midst of suffering? How do we stay connected to Jesus when we are walking through pain?
Author John Eldredge has been guiding people through practices that can help keep us in union with Christ, especially when the pain of life threatens to erode our connection. He has seen the ways in which the enemy will attempt to break our spirit and discourage us and how Christ longs to bring hope and healing to our souls. He has taken these lessons from his own life, throughout his counseling career and ministry, and what he sees now as a spiritual father to many and has written a book called Experience Jesus. Really: Finding Refuge, Strength, and Wonder through Everyday Encounters with God. In it, he shares habits and spiritual practices that will offer readers the refuge of experiencing deep, lasting, real communion with Jesus.
In this insightful episode, Davey and John talk about how we can begin to let go the weight of our cares and entrust them to God, the ways in which our agreements with the lies of the enemy can prolong our suffering, and why we need daily reminders of truth as we heal.
If you struggle to stay connected to Jesus in times of pain and heartache, this conversation will teach you ways that you can reconnect with the one who wants to bring you hope and healing.

    Feb 26 2025

How do we make it through the difficult seasons that every marriage encounters? What does contentment look like when our circumstances aren't changing?
For musicians Cubbie Fink and Rebecca St. James, they could not have predicted the many twists and turns life would take on after they said, "I do." Through the personal pain of miscarriage and fertility struggles, the ups and downs of two successful music careers, and the revelation of Cubbie's childhood trauma that needed healing, Cubbie and Rebecca have experienced difficult winter seasons that tested their marriage and their faith. They wrote about it in their new book, Lasting Ever: Faith, Music, Family and Being Found by True Love, which shares the heartaches and triumphs that shaped their story as a couple.
In this episode, Davey sits down with Cubbie and Rebecca to discuss the different seasons that marriages often encounter, how to hold space for one another in pain, and why contentment is so important in the winters of our lives.
