• Ep 324- Director Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger Talks His New Film "Lost On A Mountain In Maine!"
    Nov 2 2024
Filmmaker Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger on behalf of his upcoming adventure film LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE, produced by Sylvester Stallone and in theaters nationwide from Blue Fox Entertainment on November 1st. LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE is a classic American movie we don’t see much of anymore — an emotional epic tale of hope, grit, and family, chiseled with a modern edge and grounded by a tour-de-force performance from 15-year-old star Luke David Blumm. Based on the book by the same name (which is required reading for Maine elementary school students), LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE tells the inspiring true story of Donn Fendler, a 12-year-old boy, who, separated from his family by a fast-moving storm, must fight to stay alive during his nine-day adventure lost in the backwoods of Maine. The film was shot in ACTUAL wilderness — up to their neck in rivers, hiking mountains — everyday on set, the cast and crew hoisted the banner for Stallone’s underdog ethos. Before taking on the project, director Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger even had to hike Mount Katahdin (the Maine mountain Donn Fendler got lost on) to prove he was up for the task. Born and raised in Madagascar and later living in South Dakota, Andrew Boodhoo Kightlinger’s multi-cultural origins have fueled a prolific genre-fluid approach to storytelling. Growing up in Madagascar in the 1980s, there was a footlocker full of movies that traveled around from missionary family to missionary family, and it was a trove of Joe Dante movies that taught Andrew about filmmaking and led him on his path to becoming a director. In addition to LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE, Kightlinger has directed the prairie-bound drama TATER TOT & PATTON starring Jessica Rothe and the award-winning short film DESTROYER with Alan Ruck. He is also the winner of the Screenwriting Grand Prize at the 2016 Slamdance Film Festival. LOST ON A MOUNTAIN IN MAINE stars Luke David Blumm (“The Watcher”), Paul Sparks (“House of Cards”), Caitlin FitzGerald (The Trial of the Chicago 7, “Succession”), Griffin Wallace Henkel (Armageddon Time), and Ethan Slater (Universal’s upcoming Wicked). • Ep 318- Karen Mason Talks Her New Album, "& All That Jazz," Broadway, & Being A Cabaret LEGEND!
    Oct 27 2024
Zevely Records and King Kozmo Music, a division of the Jazzheads Music Group, have announced that Karen Mason And All That Jazz! – the singular album from acclaimed Broadway star and concert artist KAREN MASON – is now available on CD and in digital and streaming formats today, Friday, October 25. For this personal new collection, Karen explores the beloved songbook of John Kander and Fred Ebb, the justly celebrated Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award-winning team behind the Broadway musicals Cabaret; Chicago; New York, New York; and beyond. Karen is accompanied on solo piano by her longtime music director, Christopher Denny. The album is produced and mixed by Paul Rolnick with arrangements by Christopher Denny and Barry Kleinbort, who directed the original concert version of the show. Stream or download the album at https://orcd.co/pp80vaq Karen will celebrate the album with a special concert at 54 Below in New York on Sunday, November 10 and then a run at Davenport’s in Chicago on November 13-16. For ticket information, please visit KarenMason.com. Karen Mason And All That Jazz! presents Karen’s dazzling take on Kander & Ebb’s songs, which have been lighting up Broadway since the 1960s. Eschewing her typical orchestral accompaniment for subtle yet engaging piano, Karen’s interpretations are the perfect mix of intimacy and excitement. Christopher Denny’s playing, with its myriad shades and colors, sounds like an orchestra in itself. While Mason puts her unique spin on classics like “All That Jazz,” “Maybe This Time” and “A Quiet Thing,” the album also delves into less often performed shows such as The Visit (“Love and Love Alone”), The Scottsboro Boys (“Go Back Home”), and The Happy Time (“The Life of the Party”). In one particularly fascinating twist of fate, Karen gives us the rousing “I’m One of the Smart Ones,” which was originally written for the unproduced show Golden Gate, but ended up making a memorable appearance on Broadway last season in the musical New York, New York. KAREN MASON has starred on Broadway, Off-Broadway, television, in concert, and in the recording studio. She’s been praised for her “fierce emotion” by The New York Times, her “innate comic ability” by Playbill and her “delightful instrument” by the Daily News. Karen has been called “immensely appealing” by The Chicago Tribune, “a towering talent” by TheaterMania and “a dynamic performer” by Time Out New York. She is a 14-time MAC Award winner; most recently she was the recipient of the 2019 MAC Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2023 Major Artist Album of the Year, and was honored with the MAC Award for Major Female Vocalist of the Year for six consecutive years. She has also won the 2006 Nightlife Award for Major Female Vocalist and has three Bistro Awards. __________________________________________________________________ Check out "The Roundtable with Robert Bannon" here on BPN on the daily, on YouTube, and on social media!
