Speaker 1 00:00:00 Podcasting is booming, right? But how these podcasts is making so much money while others can't even pay for a mic.
    Speaker 2 00:00:06 Wow.
Speaker 3 00:00:07 Ha ha ha.
Speaker 1 00:00:10 Well. Well timed.
Speaker 4 00:00:11 Mike down the door. Are you holding back?
Speaker 1 00:00:18 Let's break down the real business models behind the biggest shows. Spoiler alert it's not just ads. Welcome to the Digital Savage. Before we get started, I just want to let you know that over 70% of people who listen to this podcast or watch it regularly never hit subscribe. And it's completely free. And it makes a huge difference to me, because subscribing tells the algorithm that this content is valuable, which helps me grow the podcast, bring on guests, which I'm going to start doing and create even more impact for you. If you've ever enjoyed an episode of Digital Savage, subscribing is the best way to support this journey and it only takes a second. Okay, so you think Joe Rogan is making money from Spotify streams? Nope. His 200 million deal is licensing. He doesn't even need ads.
Speaker 1 00:00:59 He sold his exclusive rights to his podcast, and he's not the only one. Bill Simmons bagged $250 million from Spotify for The Ringer Network. And then there's the real power play with ownership. Look at Alex Cooper's call her daddy. She walked away from Barstool Sports, got a 60 million deal from Spotify, $60 million deal, and kept the rights to her brand, and then licensed it again to Sirius XM for $125 million. That's boss level podcasting. Let's talk about Africa. Our biggest podcast is making Bank, not just from YouTube ads, but from brand partnerships, live events, merch, and a whole lot more. And that's a whole revenue stream most podcasters ignore. And Puma, Ledwaba Mack, Cisco are all selling out venues with their live podcasts and a Nigeria that I said what I said podcast launched an entire subscription club where fans pay to be part of an exclusive community. No sponsors, no middlemen, just direct audience cash. And here's the real play. If you're a podcaster, you need at least three income streams, minimum for examples.
Speaker 1 00:01:59 Obvious ones sponsorships. But don't rely just on this. Brands can drop you any time. Merch and digital products. These are masterclasses, ebooks, templates sell to your audience here. Tata rampage is a genius. You check out what he's doing with his books and stuff. Amazing. Third membership subscriptions. These are direct fan support and freedom if you can get it right from your audiences. Even though in South Africa and Africa we're quite snip at doing that. So you can't rely on that either. And finally, this is a big one. Licensing and exclusive deals. If you can build a powerful brand, companies will pay for exclusive rights to it. If you're only relying on YouTube ads or Spotify streams, you're leaving money on the table. And the biggest podcasters aren't just talkers, they're businessmen. So here's the question does your podcast have a business model? Are you playing small or you're building an empire? Let me know in the comments! How are you planning to monetize your podcast? Have you subscribed to mine yet?
Speaker 4 00:02:51 Why not down the don't you whole bag?
