  • Historic by-election puts a teenager on the council - and Labour in a pickle
    Dec 15 2024

A teenager from Birley made history when he won the Woodhouse by-election in Sheffield for the Liberal Democrats. The ward has voted for Labour at almost every opportunity since the 1960s.

Willis Marshall joins Harry Harrison to discuss his win in November, Reform UK being just 10 votes behind and how he came to begin a political career at just 19-years-old.

Later, Harry springs questions on Sheffield Labour deputy leader Ben Miskell on whether the party are concerned. Should they be?

  • Paul Blomfield and assisted dying - from Westminster
    Nov 28 2024

This could be a very consequential week in British politics and law. Kim Leadbeater's Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill won't become law on Friday, November 29, but, if passed, will begin the rigourous process on its way to potentially become an Act of Parliament and become law.

It would introduce assisted dying for adults, 18 and over, who are terminally ill and have six months or less left to live. It has split Parliament, including the Labour cabinet.

Former Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield is the chair of Dignity in Dying, an organisation working to have assisted dying for the terminally ill introduced into UK law. Scoop host Harry Harrison went to Westminster two days before the vote and spoke with Paul on College Green, right outside the Palace of Westminster.
