The Sunny Side of Life with Troy Thompson

By: Troy J. Thompson
  • Summary

  • Everyone needs a place they can call their “center of the universe”, for Troy Thompson and family, that is a place called Sunnyside in rural Iowa. Pioneer back with the old sergeant to a way of life that loves (most of) the neighbors, tries to see the good in everyone, prizes hard work, a good story, an honest laugh, and a fair deal of individual liberty. Welcome to life, liberty, and the pursuits that make us happy on the Sunnyside of Life.

This week, Troy gives his thoughts on Super Bowl LIX, the ads he found creepy, good, and unnecessary as well as a correlation between the way the Eagles smoked the Chiefs and the way the recent election went. That plus some details and thoughts on USAID, a new conspiracy bouncing around X and a theory on why the public sector unions may really be putting up their resistance to the offer to federal employees to resign.

  • The Tale of the Turtlenecked Lobbyist
    Feb 3 2025

This week, Troy gives his report on his lobbying experience at the Statehouse last week which involved personal conversations, a trip to the very top of the golden dome and the subsequent geothermal effects that followed. This, of course, led him down the rabbit hole of thinking about lobbying in general and specifically the lobbying that revolves around government subsidies in the Green Energy movement. Is there a way we can generate some thermal energy credits for ourselves while wearing woolen turtlenecks? Maybe. Oh, and there's a cat tower in this diatribe as well.

  • Foul! Vote No on HF 1: Troy Goes to the Capital...Again
    Jan 27 2025

    Send us a text

This week, the Sunnyside of Life journeys to Iowa's Capital to advocate for public schools. Troy's take on public education predates his own life, dating back to Boston, 1630, with the original public school and his family's role in it but that's not what this is about. This week, Troy will once again visit the Iowa Statehouse and this time he's bringing stickers that say: "FOUL! HF 1 VOTE NO!" It's fun to be a retired guy, school board president, and podcaster with connections. Call it like you see it and let your legislators know - HF 1 is a FOUL bill!
