Our 2025 Silmarillion journey continues with Chapter 22 of Quenta Silmarillion - Of the Ruin of Doriath!
“Of the Ruin of Doriath” is not one of the longer chapters in The Silmarillion, but it is packed with hugely significant events as we rapidly approach the climactic catastrophes of the First Age! It all picks up after the death of Túrin and Nienor, Húrin’s children.

  • Silmarillion 2025 » Ch 21 » Of Túrin Turambar
    Jul 14 2025
Our 2025 Silmarillion journey continues with Chapter 21 of Quenta Silmarillion - Of Túrin Turambar.
The tale of Túrin Turambar is a long one, rivaling “Of Beren and Lúthien” and “Akallabêth” as the longest chapter in The Silmarillion. It is also quite tragic, as we shall see. After giving a bit of background on Túrin’s ancestry, it picks up where the last chapter left off, with Túrin’s father Húrin imprisoned in Angband. The chapter then focuses in on Túrin’s life.

  • Silmarillion 2025 » Ch 20 » Of the Fifth Battle: Nirnaeth Arnoediad
    Jul 7 2025
Our 2025 Silmarillion journey continues with Chapter 20 of Quenta Silmarillion - Of the Fifth Battle: Nirnaeth Arnoediad! After Beren and Lúthien’s excellent adventure, what could possibly come next? Only a great battle brimming with bloodshed and “Unnumbered Tears” of course! First though, Tolkien provides a brief epilogue for Beren and Lúthien, giving them a happy ending, though, in true Tolkienian fashion, leaving Melian with a “grief of loss” heavier than anyone has ever known.

Hi guys! I really enjoy your show. I’ve finally been able to follow along with the Silmarillion and looking to get back to those.

I’ve had a hard time with the shows geared around RoP. The amount of negativity towards timeline issues and basically everything else. There is a lot of good in the show too, so much that does stay true to Tolkien.

Literally the first thing I said when she mentioned Celeborn is “Oh good, John will be happy now” lol. But no, still complaining about them not having a daughter. There’s so many characters in this world and moving pieces, the storytellers do need to limit how many characters they add. I’m sure we will see him next season and she will get pregnant at the end of the show. It will be fine.

This is an awesome moment in time where we get to explore new places in Tolkiens world and this show has done an amazing job of that! Just enjoy it.

I've been a longtime listener, introduced first through Spotify. John and Greta do a great job bringing the works of Tolkien into podcast form and make a solid pair of presenters. When the show began, one of the hosts had written a book on Beren and Luthien; the other had almost no knowledge of Tolkien's works. As John and Greta journeyed through Tolkien's works, I (someone who's been reading Tolkien since I was 8) really appreciated the perspective Greta brought into the show. So many podcasts on Tolkien are just super fans; it was refreshing getting someone experiencing it all for the first time while being guided by someone of expert level. It would be foolish to think a podcast about Tolkien would not discuss religion at all, but I found this to always be more of a scholarly way of discussing it, and it's always been very level headed, anyone concerned about that should be at ease. It's been a wonderful 300 episodes and I'm thrilled to see what's to come. I'll end with a quote that I believe these two have followed pretty well. "If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." The road goes ever on indeed, and I'm glad to be on it.

Longtime listener, finally able to leave a review
